I love the idea of this challenge. I am also going to do this at a leisurely pace to start. I will not be choosing books specifically for the state, rather I will be "lucky" if they take place in a state I need. I will be starting with the book I just finished - so only 49 more to go!

I generally don't do reviews of books but may try with this thread (again, going for the "no pressure" concept).

Here we go...!

Truth Like The Sun - Jim Lynch

The story takes place in Seattle, Washington with Roger Morgan at the center. 1962 - Morgan is Mr. Seattle as he runs the World's Fair at the age of 32. Fast forward 40 years and he now wants to fulfill his Mr. Seattle title as mayor of Seattle. Enters Helen, a reporter for the local paper who is looking for her Pulitzer Prize winning story. As she digs deeper into Morgan's past, his role in the World's Fair, and the development of Seattle - she discovers that Seattle was not built on honest ground as its inhabitants believe.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a little slow to get started and rather anticlimactic after what I felt was a long buildup. However, I really enjoyed how the story was pulled together. Although Morgan has less then desirable traits, he truly wants what is best for his city and no one can doubt his love for Seattle and its people. I would give it 3 stars.

Welcome to the quiet little corner of LT which is Fifty States Fiction! Since this challenge group began in 2009, a lot of people have sped through it and gone on to other challenge groups. Though I started in '09, as well, I'm taking it like you are - whatever happens to fit whenever I happen to read it. It is a fun little way to see your reads!

So between buying a house and having a baby I took a little time off from reading. But I am ready to get back into it and look forward to getting through the stacks of books I have piled up.

First off I had to finish what I started several months ago. It only took six months but I finally finished The Taste of Salt. I have a hard time enjoying books where the main character is so unlikable and that's what happened with this book.

Josie grew up in Cleveland but moved away as soon as she could to escape the city and her alcoholic father. She marries Daniel, a fellow scientist. However it hardly seems that she married him out of love, but more to prove to herself that she is better than her hometown, better than her past. I find her quite annoying as she can't forgive her father after he cleans himself up but she finds it okay (and even justifiable) to commit adultery. In the end she ends up alone, except for her father, who never gives up on her. The only part I liked was the end scene between Josie and her father.

Two stars.
