Tim, what have you been up to today on Local?

I like it! Is it ready for use?

No. We're talking about it on the Beta group. I'll send you an invite.

I've gotten interested in visiting and documenting my local Little Free Libraries. I have even visited a site where I could not find the library in question. I see that this thread has become dormant, but I will look around LT for other LFL-related posts.

There are about 17,000 Little Free Libraries worldwide that have not yet been entered into LT Local. If you would be so kind as to enter a few of them that are located near you, you can take the main information from this link. Thank you!

If there is a listed LFL that you cannot find, please make a note of that in the LT comments section of that LFL's page on Local.

I have noticed in the past, that some LFLs exist, but are extremely hard to find. These simply need better instructions for how to find them.

Sadly, one LFL that I tried to visit had been stolen entirely and was never replaced. I read about that incident elsewhere later. I noted that on the LT Local page so that people don't waste their time trying to find a nonexisting LFL.

Yeah, it's sad. The one nearest to me has recently been burned down. It will be reinstalled in the new year though. Another one in my hometown has given up. * sigh *

But I still think it's a wonderful initiative, and plan to resume adding them.

I so totally don't understand this wanton destruction. I have been talking about this problem with others on a website for Little Free Library stewards. I don't think that stewards are prepared for the kind of vandalism, negativity, and destruction that these innocuous library boxes bring out in some people.

Fortunately, my own Little Free Library of Twinbrook (#7720) has been up since July, 2013. It has not been without minor vandalism, but it has been going strong since its beginning.

Fortunately, the rewards for LFLs that are not burned down or completely stolen are immense. Why take away the joy that these little boxes bring to their stewards, neighbors, and friends who love books and reading? It sure beats me. :(

>8 SqueakyChu: There's a website for LFL Stewards?

My Little Library has only been down twice--both times intentionally, since we were due for a hurricane. But it has become a neighborhood stopping point so I never worry about vandalism.

Yes.

The website for LFL stewards is Little Free Library Stewards. It is a relatively new website and would be delighted to have more members!

Someone asked on my LFL Facebook page what we could do to help that LFL in the Netherlands that was burned. Could you tell us?

I am returning to my home state, Minnesota. I just saw this article about LFLs there; I have a lot of spots to photograph!

Nice article! A fellow LFL steward gave me a copy of Marget Aldrich's book...and it's very nice! I'm still reading it, but so far I find her book pretty impressive.

This is the newest LFL map. It is easier to search than the previous map...although not all of the LFLs are yet listed on it.

I could not get the "near me" option to work, but the zip code and city option work well for me. They load immediately for me on IE11.

Hurray! :)

Great find!

Add a picture of your LFL, too!
