I've been very concious of how long a list of books I have which have not been read. Years of build up and not read. Finding a group like this has given me a better challenge than just reading a certain number of books in a year. Books will include e-books also since they've waited as long as the rest. I'm using my LibraryThing Catalogue of books from the earliest entered but not read to the last is the order I will use. (Cookbooks and reference books not included). This will also help me find out which ones were the ones I had to give away before I left Brisbane.

Thanks for the messages of welcome. Now comes the important part. The actual reading. I think I'll just keep a monthly list (editing it each time I finish one and start another) whilst updating the ticker each time I finish one.

JANUARY

Faith of our Fathers - Finished 14 January 2014
Monitress Merle - Finished 18 January 2014
Searching for Stardust - Finished 26 January 2014
Keeping the Wanjinas Fresh - Started in January

I didn't reach my January goal. Here's hoping I do better in February. Though considering what's coming up on my list I'm not so sure I'll make it in this short month.

FEBRUARY

Keeping the Wanjinas Fresh - Finished 1 February 2014 (started in January)
Messianic Christology - Finished 8 February 2014
Unwrapping the Pharaohs - Finished 16 February 2014
By Design - Currently reading

I haven't said much about the books I read in January but I think the one from that month I enjoyed the most (even though it wasn't finished until the first of Feb) was Keeping the Wanjinas Fresh. It's about a particular tribe (mob) of Aboriginal people of the North West Kimberly in Western Australia and how important the Wanjinas, something I doubt I could explain here in few words, are to their culture. I grew up there so reading of the places and even some of the people I knew back in my teen years made it especially meaningful. One of the authors (Donny Woolagoodja) designed the Wanjina at the opening Ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Hi, you have an impressive list on top! Are you planning te read them in that order or just at random?

I'm reading them in order. Reading at random is how I got into this mess of having so many unread books hanging around for years.

hahaha. I get the picture!

Thank you Tess but I wish I could feel that I really was off to a great start with only seven roots in total now.

MARCH

John Bunyan - The Glorious Dreamer - Finished 10th March
Merle's Crusade - Finished 25th March

You have all of march to read some more ROOTs, Kay. Don't panic.

Kay, any book finished is a step in the right direction! 50 would be impossible and not enjoyable for me. I choose 13 books, all oversized books on the bottom shelf of one of my bookcases. That's only 1 per month and still permits me to read the new/shiny, books loaned to me by friends and just whatever catches my eye. However, those books on the bottom shelf, once caught my eye!

Kaydeanne, you've read more ROOTs this year already than I did all of last year in total. I think you're doing great! And I'm intrigued by your reading them in order. Are you enjoying that part of it?

18Kaydeanne

Believe or not I am enjoying that part of it. These are books I've had since 2008 and earlier and finally they are getting attention.

It feels good, doesn't it? I don't know why I keep being surprised at how interesting these books are that had just been gathering dust on my shelves for years.

>18 Kaydeanne: and >19 Merryann: : I think it's a marvelous idea too.

I'm currently reading Prospero's children trilogie by Jan Siegel that have been on my shelves forever and I really like them a lot. I would not have started reading them if this Challenge did not occur.

Just checked out your list. You'll soon be at #15 (Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger), I really hope you like it. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that that is one of those books that changed (or at least very heavily influenced) my life!

I'm really impressed with your goal. I think I'd only read 50 books a year if I did nothing else but read all day!

JULY
Ocean and Isle - Finished 23rd July
Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger - currently reading

I've been reading too many books which are not part of this list thus I didn't get the TBR book read until July.

AUGUST
Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger - Finished 17th August
Introduction to Remote Sensing - Currently reading

I suspect I may only get the one book read this month since the next one is a text book. After that I think I'll go much more quickly through my list.
