It seems to me that there was a film on public television or ovation that was based on 'testimony'. I know I saw it and thought it was very good. I would certainly recommend reading 'testimony'. There are a lot of arguments about how much Shostakovich changed his music to appease the soviets, or how he really felt about supporting them. I think he did what he had to do to survive, and compose. Akhmatova, for example, survived, but was prevented from writing or at least publishing, for years. (And a lot of other artists were shot).
