I was just reminded of Non Campus Mentis: World History According to College Students, and I thought it would be amusing to share similar instances from our own experience.

The best two examples I've had are:

"Chimpanzees grow brownish to black hair while standing three to five feet off the ground," and "Resembling soccer, the Mayan ball game involved slicing off heads and ripping out hearts" (no wonder they only hold the World Cup every four years...).

What surprising things have you learned from your students?

An earlier, and hilarious, example of the same genre comes from one of Richard Lederer's books: The World According to Student Bloopers.
