I have hundreds of books sitting on shelves, on the floor, under furniture, in grocery bags, boxes, drawers...you name it. I keep trying to get them all together and organized. That seems antithetical to how I live the rest of my life. But still I try.
I will try to honour my books in a better way - by getting some of the unread ones into the already-read piles. And maybe even passing them along to another who can enjoy them. I cannot throw away books (who on LT can?); I'm also starting to feel sympathy toward "stored" books. Aren't they meant to be read? Do they want to just sit around and wait. And if read, must I keep them? There are some I will never give away, but my new resolution is to read and distribute! I'll try to keep track. And maybe even get around to doing a proper review, who knows?
THE LIST (in no particular order):
1. My Liar by Rachel Cline
2. Super Pop! by Daniel Harmon
3. Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
4. Under the North Light by Lawrence Webster
5. Gossip of the Starlings by Nina de Gramont
6. Walking the Dog by Charles Davis
7. Peripheral Vision by Patricia Ferguson
8. A Dog Among Diplomats by J.F. Englert
9. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
10. House Thinking by Winifred Gallagher
11. Breach of Trust by David Ellis
12. Better by Atul Gawande
13. Conscious Capitalism by John Mackey and Raj Sisodia
14. Happy Alchemy by Robertson Davies
15. Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life by Karen Rauch Carter
16. The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle
17. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco
18. Just Killing Time by Derek Van Arman
19. Chasing Fireflies by Charles Martin
20. Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder
21. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
22. Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So by Mark Vonnegut
23. The Last Gift of Time by Carolyn G. Heilbrun
24. Midnight at the Dragon Cafe by Judy Fong Bates
Wish me luck.

Good luck! I'm living proof it can be done. I've had some on my shelf to be read for 10 years. This year I took 16 of the biggest, oldest ones and started with that. Just making the list and posting here has really helped. I will clear off one entire shelf when they are done. Plus, I usually don't keep books I've read unless they are classics.

Best of luck with your challenge! I'll be interested to hear what you think of the Mark Vonnegut book; it's on my to-read list (but I don't own it).

Welcome to the group. This is my first year here also, and I'm really enjoying myself and reading far more previously unread things than in past years. I hope it works that way for you here too. :)

Hi Karen, welcome to the ROOTers!
Are you planning on taking a Ticker? And is your goal the 24 books in your list?

Thanks to you all for your encouragement!
To connie53 - yes, I am planning to read these 24, but hope to add to the list as I go along. Already I can add, because I've inserted newer books, but ones that are on my shelf. As far as the Ticker goes: I've tried numerous times to get a Ticker, but I can never get one to work. Any suggestions you have will be welcomed.
To Merryann - thanks so much for your welcome. I've been an LT member for longer, but never succeeded at sticking with a book list. I'm also enjoying reading things "I couldn't wait to read!"
To rabbitprincess - I've actually now read the book - will try to post a review within the next two weeks (not only do I need to stick to a book list, I need to be sure to review - are there any magic pills for discipline?). Spoiler alert: I loved it!
To tess_i_am48 - I've been different...I've got 18 big Rubbermaid boxes full on books, some of which I've read, some that definitely fit the definition of ROOTs membership. But I have another resolution - get my already-read books into the hands of someone else who will read them and love them. I'm feeling very guilty with hanging onto so many.
Cheers.

Here is where you can see how to make one: http://www.librarything.nl/topic/163562
And this is where you can post yours and of course you might want to put it in your top post as well: http://www.librarything.nl/topic/162053

connie53: I tried the links and got nowhere. The first link let to a place where you ended up commenting that "this is how to make a thread." The second was about how to post, not where to get the ticker...I'm going to try a few things now to see how I do.

Currently reading three of the books (can't settle on just one). Still having problems with the Ticker. But also having problems with my computer in general. Getting it fixed and hoping the Ticker issue disappears.

>8 UtopianPessimist: Thread was a typo, I meant to type ticker. In the second post you see how to make a ticker.
The other link leads you to the ticker thread were you can but your link in a new post at the bottom. It takes a while to upload all the ROOT tickers. Perhaps you have to change from the Dutch version to the English version!

Already you have one check mark. Way to go!
While they certainly are a personal decision, I find tickers are a lot of fun...I've been gone for awhile; did you ever get yours working? If not, here's what you can do if you want one:
1. Go to tickerfactory.com.
2. It should show a screen that shows you lots of different types of tickers to choose, such as 'savings' and 'anniversary'. If it shows a different screen, just use the 'back' button within tickerfactory (not the main 'back button) until you get to this main screen.
3. Choose 'Objects/Actions Counter'.
4. Fill in the blanks, hit the 'next' button, choose your styles.
5. When you get to the screen that says 'Done!', you must copy your ticker to bring it here. This is not hard once you know how to do it.
Scroll down on that page. There are three different choices for copying your ticker. You want the middle one, HTML. Shade across the info in that section and choose 'copy'.
Come here to your page and 'paste'. Voila! Ticker.
6. Go to the main ticker page for our group, the one that says 'tickers only', start a new message and 'paste' your ticker there, also.
Hope that helps!
