Mr Paul Cranswick wrote me a villanelle that I'd like to share with you. Isn't it beautiful?

Fiction

If we were characters in books
Who would write the words
That fact in fiction truth forsook.

Earthen axis trembled, shook
Facing a storyline absurd
In which we were characters in books

Writer's cramp those words get stuck
Leaving only platitudes to be averred
When fact in fiction truth forsook.

A crestfallen page askance to look
Upon lines unspoken and so unheard
As if we were mere characters in books.

Volumes we spied upon shelves we took
And its chapters the sensibilities stirred
Though fact in fiction truth forsook

Truth will die and have no luck
When falsehood once recurred;
If we were characters in books
And fact in fiction truth forsook.

My optic nerve problems didn't change and the MS seems to be very active. Now there's also a major infection in my left upper leg, so I guess I have to visit the doctor tomorrow.

Fortunately, the weather is great and there's cycling on TV, another race with mountains in the Giro. Yeah!

Hi, Diana ~ Happy New Thread and warm wishes for a quick recovery from both your eye and leg infections. Somehow, though being able to walk and be pain free is a good thing, being able to see (and thus read) seems more important. Anyway, hope you are infection and pain-free soon!

54. What Alice Forgot - Liane Moriarty
548 p.

Blurb:

Alice wakes up on the floor of the gym with a nasty bump to her head, thinking she's still a fun-loving twenty-nine-year-old starting life with her gorgeous husband and pregnant with their first baby.

To her disbelief, it soon transpires the fall has knocked ten years from her memory and she is actually an uptight thirty-nine-year-old whose idea of a good time is a three-hour workout followed by committee meetings with the kind of women she used to despise. How on earth did her life come to this? And more disturbingly, how can she not remember giving birth to three children? Why does her husband suddenly hate her? And what can Alice possibly have done that means her beloved sister will barely speak to her?

This book by an Australian author was a fairly easy read, not very original or surprising, but I enjoyed it and had a good time reading it.
