The National Archives in the UK published an interesting world map to recognize the 100th anniversary of the start of WW I in 1914. it is UK centric since the pins are in countries affiliated with the UK at the time. The pins are linked to stories about the individual country and WW I. I'd suggest that you right click on the pins and open a new window, it's easier mechanically.
The map forcefully reminded me of how many countries, many of them small, but including Australia, India & Canada, were tied to Britain then (former stamp collector as a kid). If the (now) USA hadn't been so stand-offish in 1776, the global domination and influence of Britain would really have been even more remarkable.
Rule, Britannia!

WWI started in 1914, not WWII.
