Karl Rove has resigned. A reporter asked him, "What's the first thing you are going to do when you leave office?" Rove answered "go dove hunting."

What a disgusting - and dangerous - man he is. I'm not convinced we're better off having him out of the WH.

I'm sure he was trying to be funny...

Edit: At least I hope he is. (Even though I'm GLAD he's leaving, I fear it's much too late to make any real difference.)

Well, if he shoots like Cheney, I dont want to be anywhere near him.

So whose campaign do you think he goes to work for next?

>5 Jesse_wiedinmyer:: Jesse_wiedinmyer, that's exactly what I thought when I heard this on the news this morning.

Ah! You have to ~JOIN~ this Group to post on it!!!! Obviously, I'm not paying attention to details....

Just wondering -- was there any reason given for his resignation? I can't imagine that it was because his conscience bothered him... he'd have to actually ~have~ one.

Word (or 22) of warning -- I too far to the right to be considered a Liberal and too far to the Left to be considered a Conservative. At least that's the way it seems to play out....

He's only leaving now because he wants to leave. We can be sure of that much.

Um, it's the usual - he wants to spend more time with his family. As if Satan has one.

Ding dong, the dork is dead. Alliteration makes me happy.

My first thought when I heard was that some fresh piece of heinous news will be emerging over the next few weeks. I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect I'm not.

I doubt Karl Rove is going home to Texas to sit on the porch with his relatives. I am trying to imagine which Republican running for President will be recipient of his talents and tactics.

My first thought was that the fewmets were about to strike the windmill (on the fired attorneys, perhaps) and he wanted to be elsewhere, but in fact I think in that case he'd be safest if he could still cling to the cloak of executive privilege. I suspect he simply doesn't see a role he wants to play as the administration wanders aimlessly toward its demise.

>12 maggie1944:: whichever one he can manipulate to do his bidding.

>13 Jim53:: Executive privilege still applies after he leaves the WH.

#14: "Executive privilege still applies after he leaves the WH."

That's the weird thing, though. He's a political advisor. I have to wonder what political advice could possibly cause them to claim executive priviledge. Is his political advice a matter of national security or something?

What's to stop him from getting on the phone and continuing to give political advice, anyway?

#16: The threat of warrantless wire-tapping? :P

Hi, long time listener (reading the group's banter) first time caller (adding my two cents). I don't think any of these Bush adminstration guys are actually going anywhere. They resign from their official posts, but these guys have been in power for a LONG time and they are not giving that up. I have a feeling all of them are going to pop up again soon.
Edited to add: Dove hunting is much funner than one might think... BANG! Down with peace and harmony... BANG! BANG! ;-)

januaryw - oh, thank God somebody finally got what I meant when I started this thread. Was beginning to worry about myself and my apparently warped sense of humor - Had been yucking it up over the mental image of a gun-toting hawk out there shooting down peacemakers.

The scuttlebutt from the progressive blogs (Kos, MotherJones, America Prospect, etc.) as well as the mainstream media seems to indicate that he'll be 'running' against whoever wins the Demo nomination (he thinks it will be Clinton), probably by working through the RNC.

Unless McCain is nominated for the R's, this WILL be the dirtiest national election ever. And Rove will be right in the middle of it. And look for a lot of his poisonous BS during the '08 congressional elections, too. Game's far from over, folks.

Just had this thought, but... he is a smart guy, so he may be a rat leaving the sinking ship: he KNOWS Bush is going to get flogged, historically speaking, and he's trying to distance himself so that he'll have influence left for the above and later campaigns.

Too bad, Dubya: looks like Karl will be screwing YOU before you can get around to screwing him.

Therefore, a prediction: Rove's supposed 'book' about the administration will drop off the map.
