Describing his cultural cachet: "I, for a while, became, in fact, as I read with pleasure, an 'ideational gonfalon.' To the contriver of that phrase I shall forever remain grateful admiringly. I myself found it rather a nuisance being an ideational gonfalon; but Priscilla Bradley Cabell enjoyed it fervently, now that the two of us were becoming acquainted with so very many other writers who, at this period, seemed rather more than ready to answer to the same description." AS I REMEMBER IT, p. 56

I'll admit to having to look it up: I was confusing "gonfalon" with "colofon" to my consternation. In the end, it is an awfully highfalutin' term.

Me three. I was thinking it was something like 'gonif'...

Hm. At my Templar orientation, I learned that our gonfalon was Beauseant, the Oriflamme of the Order. It doesn't seem so obscure to me.
