Wow! That is a very cool photo!

Wiliamina Fleming, Annie Jump, and Henrietta Swan Leavitt would have loved it, too.

And it must make Vera Rubin, one of the early 20th Century astronomers still living (and the first woman to have access at Palomar) proud. She has spent her life dedicated to encouraging girls to pursue their studies in astronomy.

Isn't it? When I was a teenager I had a pen pal in Bangalore who studied astrophysics at the institute there. She also had a relative involved in the space programme. I wish I remembered more details--or knew whether she might be in the picture!
