Someone* (with no books or any info on his profile) has uploaded six of the same image of author David Alexander (2): http://www.librarything.com/gallery/author/alexanderdavid-2 I flagged 5 of them as duplicates. Yet the majority of people are voting against removing the duplicates.

Why?

Probably because IIRC duplicate author photos, while useless and annoying, are not actually TOS violations.

Probably the people voting "no" didn't read the picture guidelines.

>2 lorax:

Images can be flagged even if they are not TOS violations. (See https://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/Where's_my_picture%3F) In fact, duplication is one of the main reasons photos are flagged. It generally happens when author pages are combined, though in this case it's someone uploading the same image several times to the same page.

I must say that I am also curious as to how multiple photos on the same author page get designated as the "Primary" one.

Maybe, but I've never seen this happen before. Generally, duplicate photos are quickly flagged for deletion. We get the occasional "no" vote, but that tends to be the author/uploader.

Thanks, I hadn't actually seen that page recently.

The page is somewhat out of date, as we can now differentiate between authors with the same name.

>1 lilithcat: Good grief! Within minutes of your post I double checked my votes. Each were running 6/6. Now they are 10/11. So for each additional yes vote there is another no vote.

>2 lorax: Odd that there are 2 primary pictures and that the comment on the 4th pic is for a book with an Amazon cover which is listed as David Alexander #14. It is a real book but who knows which David Alexander it belongs to?

I noticed this too. Something odd going on.

I just voted, and only the "yes" tally changed. So I don't think it's a software problem.

I just came here to start a thread about it, and am glad to see it's already started.

I did notice that only a day or two ago, when last I checked the "Flagged gallery," that there were 6 "yes" votes and 0 "no" votes on each of them. This has escalated quickly.

Further background on when the photos added, as I remember, were that they were each ascribed to a different "David Alexander" author until lilithcat, I believe, cleaned them up to show on just the one correct author page. Why someone would keep adding the same photo deliberately to every David Alexander author is... bizarre.

By the way, all the duplicate photos that the member noted in >1 lilithcat: have the show copyright notice ("(C)DavidAlexanderBooks.com") but the photo is not on said web page.

If I were a suspicious person, I'd think that a new "ubangi"/David Alexander member is created each time there's a new "yes" vote, so as to create a new "no" vote.

How could you even tell? That was such a late-1990s horrorshow of a page that my eyes are still burning.

Maybe people just don't see "Should this image be removed?" and instead think they are voting on the "Author Division" as in "no this image should not be reassigned."

I would think U Bang I is a prankster and has recruited "new" members to vote no.

If I were a suspicious person, I'd think that a new "ubangi"/David Alexander member is created each time there's a new "yes" vote, so as to create a new "no" vote.

I had that same thought when I saw they were even earlier, with such large numbers. :|

The ubangi/David clones are still proliferating, because votes on the pictures are now 15 yes and 16 no, so I'll ask Tim to read this thread and see what he thinks.

Well, whatever was going on, the images are now gone, and so is the uploader.

New issue, same sentiment.

I finally, finally found a photo of Katharine Newlin Burt, and had to download it to my computer and then upload it
http://www.librarything.com/pic/6093497

because of formatting issues.

So it's there, but it's not there. Not on author page, not on recent author pictures.

What am I missing?

ps: Isn't she a swell looker?
