Learning a lot from this book. Certainly makes you wonder about the future of our jobs.

From the number of posts on this thread it looks like most LTers are unaware of the robotic threat creeping up behind us all.

I tried to make a purchase at Home Depot this weekend, and none of the regular checkout lines were open. No choice but to use the automated checkout. The attendant there claimed there are not enough qualified people to take checkout line jobs. He's been sold a bill of goods.

ps: I'll be checking that a real person is available before I bother shopping there again.

"Qualified people"??? Er, checkout work was always entry-level, and it's been de-skilled to the point where customers can be made to do it for themselves.
