Andre Turcat was the chief test pilot for the Concorde SST program who flew the Concorde on its maiden flight and was the first to take it past twice the speed of sound. He died on January 4 at the age of 94. He wrote Concorde. Essais d'hier, battailles d'aujourdui.

Very sorry to learn that Gillian Avery died at 89 on 31st January. Author of The Greatest Gresham and other children's books. She was also an expert on children's lit and wrote about the history of girls' education. RIP.
