They may think there's fifty less of us today... They are wrong. Five hundred million have been born.

>2 lorax:

Thank you for joining. Thank you very much, because I know you may not be comfortable with the idea that a group like this is open to all.

If there is abuse I shall consider locking it down, but as LT is so small, I'd prefer to allow easier joining at least in the beginning.

Incidentally, I don't know whether I have inadvertently duplicated an existing group--all I know is that there isn't a single general LGBTQ group on the active list (even the specialised ones , lesbian or gay male reading groups, don't seem to be very active).

So, this may be a first attempt at a general group, or at least another attempt at getting one going.

Thank you all for joining, it is deeply appreciated.

I must apologise in advance if I seem to disappear or am not present enough in the next few weeks (going through a very bad patch at work) but I would hope no one relies overmuch on my involvement for theirs! :)

I just wanted to make a space, STAND UP AND HOIST THAT FLAG!--in the face of death and hate so wantonly, so abominably visited on people.

I know there's not a previously existing general LGBT group, it's been my example for years of the type of conversation that was stifled by Tim's absolutist policies.

Unfortunately an after-the-fact lockdown in the presence of abuse doesn't solve the problem of an existing abuser, but at this point I'm willing to take that risk - the worst case scenario is that I would have a concrete example to point Tim at.

I doubt I will have anything to offer but hope to learn how to be a better ally. Everyone deserves to be safe.

Thank you for joining. :)

People, please don't be shy about starting threads. I'm a miserable "host" and these days I can only snatch minutes here and there anyway.

I feel somewhat sheepish about it being me who started the group (given I'm not an activist or even completely out of the closet etc.), but it was one of those moments when it HAD to happen and as it wasn't happening, I did it... and... there it is.

Incidentally, if anyone has objections to the name or the description, let's discuss. I know "Queer Nation" is an actual movement (with which I'm not and don't mean to imply this group is necessarily affiliated with technically, but/except in affinity) but the concept behind the phrase, and the phrase itself is so great I felt it would be right to borrow it.

In short, as long as we're going to get killed for having a certain identity, it is right and necessary to claim and support that identity and its right to exist, separate from other aspects of who we are.

It's like that "we should be colour-blind" conundrum concerning racism. Yeah, we should. In some perfect future society, and in some ways even now. But as long as racism exists "colour-blindness" isn't possible.

I sometimes think that we shouldn't strive to be color blind so much as extra extra colorful. :-)

Hi all! I joined this group as an ally. I have some bi friends, have worked alongside many who identify with the general LGBTQ population, in some form or fashion. It's not for me to place labels, and frankly I don't give a damn. :) If I like someone, I like them, sexual orientation be damned.

I mainly have a problem with any organized religion who thinks it's okay to discriminate against people. I've signed many a petition against the so-called "religious freedom" laws, because they piss me off. Organized religion is a tiresome subject to me (apologies to anyone who is offended, I mean no harm).

I thought this: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/b7b31fa588744be68681e9ce2cffb151/judge-blocks-par...

was a reason to celebrate. I hope reason continues to prevail.

Anyway. I'm here because I'm with you. Peace, love and well wishes!
