This might be special pet project for me, as I live an hour north of NYC and could feasibly take a trip down to do this... if the university will let me. I may also find it online, so this may take a while...

But I've found that I could request a dealer's catalogue of Forster's books from Penn State:
https://www.libraries.psu.edu/findingaids/3243.htm

Another catalogue exists in Austin:
http://norman.hrc.utexas.edu/fasearch/findingaid.cfm?eadid=00039

And apparently at King's College:
https://books.google.com/books?id=qhivAwAAQBAJ&pg=PA145&lpg=PA145&dq...

"The Heffer sales catalog contains ... a lengthy discussion of the disposition of Forster's library, formerly kept in his Cambridge rooms. The items not selected for King's College Archive (in all, about 1,000) items were sold by Heffer. ..."

From: Collecting, Curating, and Researching Writers' Libraries

So it seems the catalogue only contains the books which King's College did not buy, about half of his collection.

Nice sleuthing, knotbox. I'm not a particular Forster fan, but I'm drawn to Legacy Libraries generally, so I'll follow your efforts (assuming you proceed, and post here).

This would be really interesting. I had a quick look at it seems the extant copies from Forster's library are cataloged under call numbers beginning with 'Forster.' and then abbreviations of the subject or author and year; they should be easy enough to spot in your search. Unfortunately, the catalogue doesn't seem to give any details of inscriptions or annotations.

It may take a couple months, but as I said, I'm a fan, I'd be willing! Thanks for your interest. :)

>1 knotbox: An excellent idea! It sounds like this is a bit of a localized project, and may be hard for other members to contribute. Let us know if there's anything we can do to support your efforts from afar?

If anyone finds an online database I've missed, but doesn't want to do it, they can post it here. But at the moment, there's not much else. :) Thank you, Loranne.
