z39.50 - New Jersey State Library

New Jersey State Library z39.50 is failing; current Z39.50 connection details: capemay.njstatelib.org:210/horizon.

I can't find any updated connection details - all references I can find online list the same that LT has. Some of the searches mention JerseyCat, and I can't quite tell if JerseyCat is perhaps a replacement for the New Jersey State Library z39.50, or an aggregate directory which includes it; one page says "JerseyCat is a virtual catalog that allows you to search the collections of over 700 New Jersey public and college libraries at one time", which makes it sound like a great source to add if they allow z39.50. (online at https://njsl-agent.auto-graphics.com/mvc/)

LOC z39.50 gateway to New Jersey State Library is failing, using the same connection details: http://www.loc.gov/cgi-bin/zgate?ACTION=INIT&FORM_HOST_PORT=/prod/www/data/z...

IRSpy log shows New Jersey State Library z39.50 has been failing consistently since the end of August: http://irspy.indexdata.com/raw.html?id=Z39.50%3Acapemay.njstatelib.org%3A210%2Fh...

One thing to look into is why there's no yellow ! icon next to New Jersey State Library. The failed-to-connect message notes "This source was last checked on 2016-12-06 00:33:14", while it was failing yesterday and it's failing today...

Sorry there's no crisp single call to action here. Possible things to do:
  • contact NJ State Library and see what's up with their z39.50
  • see if there's a way to z39.50 JerseyCat instead/in addition
  • figure out why the connection testing script doesn't flag this as a bad source

>2 lesmel: I don't think it's that they're "lying" per se. If I understand correctly, those icons don't appear automatically—we have to set them each time we find a source that's not working. CC can correct me if I'm wrong?

Current NJSL catalog is: http://nj.ipac.sirsidynix.net (Horizon)
They are using EDS (from Ebsco) as the discovery layer.

Assuming the z39.50 server is running and publicly accessible, the connection details are:

nj.ipac.sirsidynix.net:210/horizon

>4 lesmel: I guess that means the server is down, because I'm not connecting with those details.

>3 lorannen: At the moment, it's mostly an inside my own head joke because I've referred to the status icon as lying several times now. I know there's a delay in the script CC has running. At least, it's my understanding there's a checker script.

>5 davidgn: Could mean protected access like Acces Pennsylvania. Hrm.

>1 cesdemo: For posterity, JerseyCat, from what I can tell, is the ILL system for NJ residents.

PA is a 'CHEAP STATE' and I may be quoted on that as they continue to close historical locations since 2008. At least they ought to let people look at what books are around.

I have seen reference to JerseyCat ILL, but it also seems to be a catalog. See what I wrote in comment 1: 'one page says "JerseyCat is a virtual catalog that allows you to search the collections of over 700 New Jersey public and college libraries at one time", which makes it sound like a great source to add if they allow z39.50. (online at https://njsl-agent.auto-graphics.com/mvc/)' -- try clicking on that link, search for something and see lots of results come back from multiple libraries...

Poking around a bit more, another source says "JerseyCat is New Jersey's statewide library catalog and interlibrary loan system and is provided to all New Jersey libraries by the New Jersey State Library.", confirming it's both. Of course we're more interested in the catalog half of that, especially if they have z39.50...

>9 cesdemo: In that case, maybe:

njsl-agent.auto-graphics.com:2010/njsl
or
njsl-agent.auto-graphics.com:2010/njsl-agent

In contact with one of the librarians at NJSL. Trying to confirm z39.50 is still publicly accessible. The EndNote connection file is out of date, too.
