Still reading The Fireman.

I wrapped up my stay at Hogwarts and am back to the end of the world with The Last Star.

I'm on the mean streets of Yenara with the City Watch in The Fifth Ward: First Watch by Dale Lucas.

I spent today in NYC in The Changeling.

Added Range of Ghosts by Elizabeth Bear to my reading rotation.

Started two books in the last couple days - going a round of having one book to read on my lunch break at work, and one for at home.

So I'm commuting back and forth between the cities of the Khaiem in The Price of Spring and another city (or two) in The City & the City.

I finished First Watch so now I've left Yenara for Miami with an ancient pharaoh turned cop and some vampires in Graveyard Shift by Michael Haspil.

I enjoyed Puppet Parade at the beginning of this month.

It begins as a fairy tale retold (Evil step-mother on the heroine's side / Pinocchio influences on the hero's side), but fairly quickly veers from that even as it remains firmly anchored in magical realism / weird territory.

I'm back in Red Deer, Texas for a peace summit between two warring factions in Sweep in Peace. Dina and the Gertrude Hunt have their work cut out for them!

It's probably a bit too sedate for some fantasy readers (it's much more about politics and ideas than adventure and nifty cool powers and such) and my final opinion of the series is somewhat going to depend on how he resolves a situation that he created at the end of Book 3... but it's definitely worth a look for people who enjoy the more "mature" fantasies like GGK's work or Bujold's Chalion books.

The Leaky Establishment by David Langford

This hilarious tale of misplaced nuclear warheads is just so clever. The main character works in a nuclear research facility, burdened by bureaucracy and buried in red tape and minutia.

The preface by Terry Pratchett claims that he wishes he had written it, and I agree that it appeals to the same audience but I don't think Pratchett would have approached the humour with quite such a delicate touch.

I was surprised to see that not many other members have this book in their libraries. He has written several others, which I hope to find.

It's time to get the band back together with The Kings of the Wyld.

It's time to find out how the entire Symphony of Ages ends with The Weaver's Lament.

Finished Range of Ghosts by Elizabeth Bear. Enjoyed it well enough.

I finally read A Wizard of Earthsea!! It was great and I'm not sure why it took me so long to get to it. Has anyone read the rest of them?

Tehanu which is sometime grouped with them is a bit different. I think I put it aside for a few years when I read them for the first time as it felt jarring, but I was quite young.

I'm in London in 1894 in The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximel by K.J. Charles, which does not have a touchstone but which is sort of paranormal Sherlock Holmes slash with the serial numbers filed off, and I mean that in the best possible way.

Just finished rereading Gifts by Le Guin, which I read a few years ago, in preparation for reading the other two in the trilogy, which I've found over the last year or so. It wasn't as much of a classic as the Earthsea books, but it's Ursula Le Guin, which means Very Good.

Reading In Calabria by Peter S. Beagle.

Adding an ARC of In the Footsteps of Dracula edited by Stephen Jones into my reading rotations. This one will be a chore to read at almost 700 pages of nearly illegible print. Oh, well.

I'm in Belisaere with Clariel. I'm gradually working my way through Garth Nix's Old Kingdom books and loving them.

I'm about to see if there are Good Omens for an upcoming apocalypse.
