There are plenty of thinkpieces out there already about what Harari terms "dataism" in his book—how we, and the entirety of the world, are all just flows of information—and how the data we give away to companies every day about ourselves is shaping the future. What's your opinion of Homo Deus's conclusion that this worship of data is an emergent "religion"?

I don't approve of that use of religion, so no I don't.

Thinking of religion as something that people worship as "superhuman" or greater than (wo)mankind, I think Harari's claim of data being an emergent religion isn't entirely off. You look at what many non-third world populations spend their time with, on a day-to-day basis, and it probably has a screen. Technology is a field that is ever-growing, ever-expanding, becoming more and more powerful, influential, and thus important to society. Technology and data go hand-in-hand, and although we may never officially call it Dataism, many people certainly do worship technology and data. (Hello, LibraryThing metageeks :) )
