Hi. Pardon my English. We had a 10x increase in Dutch people over the last 24 hours—January 6-7. According to Google, they all came in to LibraryThing.nl straight, without coming from another website.
Was there something in the newspaper or on TV? Anyone know?

As a matter of fact, I discovered, rather by accident, that out of the 15 Thingamabrarians that are using Antwerpen as their location indicator now--"Antwerpen" being the local (i.e. : Dutch language) name of (the city of) Antwerp, Flanders, where I live, too--no less than 4 of them (i.e. : Karl_Drabbe, LouellaDellaTweed, marcdillien, and oscarwilliam) adhered Jan 7, 2008--yesterday, that is. This has been boosting up the number of Thingamabrarians located at "Antwerpen" (sic) by more than 1/3 in one single day. Rather baffling indeed.
What's more : at the moment of your questioning as per your Message 1 in this topic, the answer was ready available at LT Talk already :

Make that 5 new Thingamabrarians out of the 16 that are located at "Antwerpen". LT has got new member polyglot added too now.
Mind and keep in mind that as Dutch newspapers were pointing at LT.com--English language LT edition, that is--De Standaard is pointing at LT.nl--Dutch language LT edition.
Alas, starting May 2007, the latter--LT.nl, that is--has been seriously damaged and crippled by some Dutch loudmouths that do not nor even intent to use LT.nl themselves, ever.
I don't mind about "avid translators" that are boosting their translations score by translating the technical crap that is cluttering all over LT's translations pages now. I couldn't care less. Though the technical crap clutters the translations pages--can't you solve this, please ?--the latter doesn't bother but translators. Whether or not the crap gets "translated" doesn't bother anyone. Though of course LT 'd better clean up the crap, whomever thinks that it is fun, can freely play and fool around with the latter indeed, for that doesn't influence the user's LT experience at all.
OTOH, people fooling around with real text snippets--because they think it's fun or because they don't care or because they don't know, whatever the reason might be--do influence the Thingamabrarians's user experience--in a negative way, that is : they are damaging LT indeed. That's fun, don't you think ? YMMV--mine does, (too).
At LT.nl, cohorence is gone now. And better don't get me started on stupid and nonsensical and completely out of context translations that all cluttering all over LT.nl now. Adding to this, even some of the loudmouths openly admit that they haven't got the slightest clue about Dutch language grammar. Count the disaster when those start "correcting".
You might think that one who doesn't even know the difference between (in English) e.g. "their" and "they 're" would make for a great corrector. I am quite sorry, but I don't. Blame me. And don't forget to call me names. (*)

Thank you for your opinions, as always. I do not thank you for insulting other members. The insult was extremely minor and would normally pass as a probable unknowing slip, but since you made a point of noticing that you knew it was in violation of the TOS, particularly unacceptable.
