Today I started and finished Women & Power: A Manifesto, by Mary Beard. Next up will be what feels like a ridiculously manly book by contrast: The North Water, by Ian McGuire.

Recently finished and quite enjoyed the 1st book in a mystery series that I stumbled across last year, written by a Canadian lawyer. I'm reading them out of order, as usual... Sign of the Cross by Anne Emery

And on the weekend, I also finished a novel that I thought was really good: The Fortunate Brother by Donna Morrissey

Still reading through JK Rowling. Just read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. These are my first YA adult reads in a long time and they're quite enjoyable.

Discovered a new English mystery series, set in post WWI Yorkshire. I really liked this first book in the series: Dying in the Wool by Frances Brody.

>12 mdoris: Happy Valentine's Day!

Today I spent an enjoyable lunchtime gushing over The Hare Book, edited by Jane Russ and published by the Hare Preservation Trust. It's an adorable little coffee-table book and the hare photography is gorgeous.

I am taking my time reading 200 Women who will change the way you see the world. It has stunning photographs and asks interesting women some intersting questions.

Finished a compelling thriller today: What She Knew by Gilly MacMillan

Finished The Kingmaker's Daughter. It was a good read, but so depressing to realize that all the intrigue and murders necessary to gain the throne are still required to retain the throne. Starting John Grisham's The Confession for a change of pace.

Reading Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life. Borrowed it from the library and it looks so new, I might be the first person to do so, lol.

I miss the days when you could see the card with names of previous borrowers and get a sense of the history of its exchanging hands.

>19 LynnB: Lynn I just picked that one up at a Free Library that my next door neighbour has. I put it on top of the TBR pile as I have so many library books at home. I started Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. I think it's going to be good.

Finally finished my "work break" book: Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon. First read some of the Outlander series when they first came out in the 90's, but lost interest and stopped reading the series about this far along. I'll see if I can persist now that I'm 20+ years older.

I finished a rather sentimental, war time romance story today, but actually rather liked it. Good, simple bedtime reading. Goodnight from London by Jennifer Robson

Last read of the month; Peaches for Monsieur le Cure by Joanne Harris. I've read this series completely out of order, but still enjoyed it, though this one dragged a bit for me.

Those Girls / Chevy Stevens.
4.5 stars

Due to the abuse suffered at the hands of their father (their mother died a few years earlier), three sisters, Dani, Courtney, and Jess, run away, only to find themselves in a town where some initially seemingly nice guys help them out. But, this goes badly and they end up in another terrifyingly horrible situation! 18 years later, after having lived in Vancouver since then and having built a life for themselves, things take another turn and the past is back…

I was trying to describe that with no spoilers - at least nothing that was not mentioned on the back of the book (I may have mentioned less than what’s on the book blurb)! The first half of the book is told from Jess’ point of view; Jess is the youngest sister. Perspective switches for the second half. This was a book I just didn’t want to put down! I wanted to keep reading. There is a lot of violence, though, so be warned of that.
