We have spent the weekend at the Pannonian Bird Experience. Fun lectures, but not as good bird watching as usual. The wading birds seem to be missing. The lake is full of geese and goslings, swans, ducks, and gulls, but very little else. We did see a great crested grebe, a yellow wagtail, and several northern lapwings.

Oh yes, I picked up a few books. David Lindo 'The Urban Birder' was one of the speakers, and I bought his two books. Very enjoyable. His big thing is encouraging people to look for birds where they (the people) are. You don't have to get out into the country to see exciting birds.

I also bought Birds : ID insights : identifying the more difficult birds of Britain. The page of silhouettes of birds of prey in flight sold me. Also a book on tits (German translation of a Swedish book) because they are among the most frequent visitors to our feeders.
