Has anyone here used TinyCat with their library? I'm curious giving it a try for my personal library. Right now I'm just looking at playing with an OPAC and not planning on online checkout for circulation.

I'm wondering how it works with my existing LT library. Does it access the whole thing or could I have it work from a specific collection within my books? For example, a reference collection?

I have it set up, although I don't really use it. You can decide which collections it should access.

Okay, great! That was my main question. I have books on here that are a mix of books that would be in my future "library" and then some that I have for things like reviews.

Expanding on >2 MarthaJeanne: You can also elect to show books from a given collection, but hide that collection label in your TinyCat. For example, I have one collection that is essentially a subset of another. I've elected to show books in both collections, but only show the main collection label.

Ah, alright. What I've got now is mostly a personal collection but when I more formally create my library/archive, I expect not everything will make it in. I was wondering if I'd have to actually start removing books that I will likely not include in a long term collection.

I've set up TinyCat, in a minimal way, but use it only for my amusement. I like to watch the random display of my book covers scrolling by on the welcome page. Felicity

I have set up my very small church library in TinyCat. I also have my personal collection in LT which I did not want mixed with the church library collection. I made my collection inactive and now church members can only access the church collection. It is also minimal in that users just sign a card in the book and leave the card for me. I do the admin part. Our collection is so small, this works for us right now.

I plan on having the old check out card system as well, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to paste too much into my books. I love them! I suppose it's not much worse than a bookplate.

Has anyone tried the labels? Do you assign the numbers yourself, order the labels, and the cat scanner reads those?

I've used it for my personal collection as I have quite a large collection with lot's of books in similar subjects. I use tags to categorize them and then it helps me keep track of what I have. I'm not sure if it's useful beyond that but I like organizing information so i like it.

>8 WeeTurtle: I have just recently bought and started putting the barcode labels that LT offers into my books. All of my books I have entered here, are what will become the books in my classroom library (Future -- Elementary School Teacher).

I wanted the barcodes for two purposes, one to use as a check out method so I know which students or other staff members are borrowing and using my books. Secondly to then be able to run for inventory purposes and see what if any books are missing and/or lost.

So far I am finding it easy to stick the labels on the books. I am placing my on the inside back cover right above the label that has my name on it. I have a barcode scanner I bought elsewhere, and just simply clicking in the barcode field in LT and then scanning the label I have stuck in the book adds the barcode and assigns it to that book or in my case of several books a particular copy of a book.
