Just started watching Foyle's War on Acorn (but it's also on Brit Box). It takes place in England at the beginning of WWII. Only 2 episodes in and it's just fantastic!

What a great find, Tess. I watched the entire series online a few years ago, and was sad when they stopped producing new episodes. Michael Kitchen is awesome in this. Also, it had completely slipped my mind that he was also in Out of Africa, until I watched that movie again. Enjoy the series!

Not precisely HF, since the stories were set contemporaneously with the author's own lifetime, but. . .Some favorites include the two major Edith Wharton novels that made it to the big screen: The House of Mirth and Age of Innocence. Both gorgeous productions and well acted.

Also thoroughly enjoyed Merchant Ivory films. Especially Remains of the Day, which does fit the strict sense of HF book into movie category. In the liberal interpretation, favorites include Room with a View and Howard's End. Not so much liked is Henry James' The Golden Bowl. Uma Thurman's acting got in the way.

I overlooked watching the recent Poldark series of Winston Graham's. I remember looking in on the original BBC production broadcast on PBS years ago. I was intrigued but couldn't stick with the complete set of episodes then.

>4 Limelite: Which A Room with a View film are you referring to? The 1985 version is pretty perfect. The 2007 Masterpiece Theater version has some potent charm, but also some problems.

>5 2wonderY:

Merchant Ivory feature film with Helena Bonham-Carter and the incomparable Maggie Smith. Lush -- and who forget the wonderful nude swimming scene? Hilarious!!
