Tom Service visits the Coronet Theatre in London as Irish theatre company Gare St Lazare begins rehearsals for a production of Samuel Beckett: How It Is. One of the writer's most experimental and beautiful works, the novel is an extraordinary exploration of language, and this production explores the beauty, sound, rhythm and meaning of the words while the strains of the Irish Gamelan Orchestra, under the composer and sound designer Mel Mercier, enhance the dystopian atmosphere of Beckett's writing.
