Happy New Year!
In a few months, I will be setting out on a journey across China and a few other neighboring countries. Many of the locations that I visit will be along the Silk Road, so I want to read as much about it as I can, whether fictional or otherwise.

I have found that books rated 3.5 stars or more are 90% decent reads. So to that effect I find:
So from a Historical Non-fiction perspective these seem to be promising:
The Silk Road: Two Thousand Years in the Heart of Asia by Frances Wood - 4.02 stars
Silk Road: Monks, Warriors & Merchants by Luce Boulnois - 3.64 stars - I think this may be underrated
Shadow of the Silk Road by Colin Thubron - 3.78 stars - a modern travel log that looks interesting to me.
Foreign Devils on the Silk Road: The Search for the Lost Cities and… by Peter Hopkirk - 3.99 stars
From a Historical Fiction perspective:
Silk Road by Colin Falconer This book has a 3.53 star rating but I pick this book because I really liked Dangerous and I think this would be an interesting read.
Doing a tag search "Silk Road" will get you many many possible reads... These are a few that I personally would like to read if I found them in my used book store haunts. Not many historical fiction books on the subject that I have seen so far but like I said I will give the Falconer book a try just because I liked the one book of his that I have read.

I'm a fan of The Journeyer by Gary Jennings; historical fiction, the "rest of the story" of Marco Polo. But, reader beware: Jennings likes his sex and gross-out scenes.
