I have decided to go on accumulating Storisende editions until complete, get rid of all Kalkis, keep some firsts as well as Modern Library and Ballantine Adult Fantasy.

I am not sure if I will get rid of the illustrated editions. I like them....

I list them on this spread sheet. (Is it understandable?)

I prefer the ending of the Kalki (and earlier) text of Cream of the Jest to the augmented Manuel-related ending used in the Storiesende (and subsequently in the Ballantine reissue).

I think we talked briefly about this in the earliest days of The Rabble. At that time I didn't think it made any difference but since then I've come to feel that the revision rather botches the ending, making it less comprehensible unless you're in on the whole Biography system.
I prefer it that Cream be able to stand on its own, even as it's tied in to the Biography in more subtle ways. Also the original ending was just so well done.

The Modern Library and Illustrated editions of Cream retain (iirc) the pre-Storisende ending.

I'm a Kalki man, myself--supplemented with illustrated editions when possible and Storisende where necessary.

I had been collecting Cabell for years before I knew that the BAF editions existed!

All the BAFs are the Storisende text -- unless they've used the 1948 text of Music from Behind the Moon for the second work in the Domnei volume. I looked into that once but I forget what conclusion I came to.

Edited to correct error.

Interesting question implied here. Upon reflection, I believe I'm an illustrated man -- taking a hardbound illustrated edition over any softbound, and over any non-illustrated edition. These considerations are the easiest for me to grasp, and I suspect later considerations (such as Storisende revisions or which editions may include extra stories or essays) will come into play later. At some point, I suspect I'll be where >1 wirkman: is now -- reviewing duplicate editions and holes in my collection, to decide upon my preferred collection.

I too am partial to the illustrated editions..particularly the Pape illustrations, which have become, to me, almost as essential as the text to the biography of Manuel. For awhile, I even considered trying to collect all of the Bodley Head editions that included a Pape illustrated dust jacket or frontispiece, but those can be difficult to find and expensive.
