I have actually been checking on LT every once in a while since December, but I confess I've been avoiding this group because I found the extreme backlog of neglected tasks intimidating.

But, this past week I officially made my weekly wordage goal for the first time since Oct 2017, and so I was feeling ready to roll up my sleeves and dive in. So we now, at the very least, have a 2019 Author Introductions thread set up and linked to from the group description.

Hopefully I'll actually be able to keep up with the index this year.

(If anyone is inclined to send prayers or other forms of positive energy in my direction, I will accept it gratefully.) :)

congratulations, and thanks, and welcome back - I did not manage to replace you in welcoming people!

I hope you aren't beating yourself up over that.

You have to remember that this is a job I invented for myself because I like doing it. :)

It is good to have to back!

I kept thinking about how to automate the process of updating the lists, but never got very far...

Hmm...

You could try create a parser of some sort. It grabs the username, checks the rest of the message looking for genre matches, and then goes and looks up if the username has an author page associated with it.

Then when it's got all the right bits of information it edits the relevant posts...

I've done simple parsers before, (I wrote some code to automatically turn my ebooks into webserials), but I've never done an auto-poster. (Clearly I lack the true marketing spirit or I would have long since figured out how to use my webcoding skills to create bots that post book ads all over everywhere, instead of just using them to make bingo cards. Silly me!)

But, you know... I kind of thought that welcoming people and giving them advice was also part of the point of the exercise. Creating the lists is, for me, the relaxing part of the process, and because I have certain bits of information I want/need to pull out from each post, I have to look closely at the details of what was posted. Making the list also forces me to go and look at people's profile so I can check if they have an author page yet. This prevents the endless stream of introductions from all blurring together, and makes it easier for me to keep coming up with things to say. :)

So this time I have had a pinched nerve that sends waves of pain and/or 'pins and needles' down my left arm whenever I sit up straight, or lie down flat. I spent over a month and a half in a recliner, and during that time was extremely sleep deprived.

I have finally improved to the point where I can lie down on the couch reasonably comfortably if I wedge myself up against the back to hold me in the right position. Since then, I've been trying to catch up on missed sleep.

Unfortunately my sleep schedule got totally out of whack during the recliner period, so now I want to sleep all day and am wakeful at night: not the most convenient schedule when I live with five other people, and can only sleep in the living room (my bedroom is too small to move the sofa into it.)

I wanted to post explaining what happened,
but I really don't think I'm ready to catch up on the backlog of missed messages yet.
Sorry. :(

And the upshot of it all is: I got disk replacement surgery.
