Technically, it is possible to post a review of an unreceived LTER book. However, once you do so you can no longer mark the book as "unreceived" on the "Books You've Won" page, because that option disappears.
I'm not sure what this looks like to staff on the back end, but I know I don't want to give a publisher credit for sending me a book when they didn't and I had to wait until it was published and then buy it or get it from the library!
So, I propose leaving the "I received this book!/I still have not received this book" links on the page even after a review has been posted. I'm open to other solutions to this problem!

Perhaps a Read but not received option?

>1 norabelle414: Yeah, this is a long-running RSI for me, too. Thanks for writing it up succinctly!
The reason it currently works as it does is because this avoids requiring folks to mark a book as received (which I'm not sure members would do). At the very least, I'd think we could still allow an indicator of "no, I didn't actually receive this book, even though it's in my library."

Thanks for working on this. It is a very much needed change.

That would seem to be the obvious solution. I agree that requiring members to mark received would not be a good solution - most of the time, if someone has won an ER book and adds it to their library, receipt can be assumed. But keeping the existing "I have not received this book" even after someone's added the book to their library would help for the cases where a book is never received but the member added it anyway. (I have one of those myself, but I didn't review it.)

This is a wonderful idea! I've actually put off reading some of the books I haven't received just because I don't want the publisher getting credit for something they never sent me.

Let me also put in a vote that I also think this is a good idea!

I wholeheartedly agree that this needs to be done!

LTER really needs a way to mark "I was waiting for this book and did not receive it in a reasonable length of time" as well as just "I have not marked this book received yet".
Also, if you buy or borrow and then read and review a book that you have marked actively not received it should give you extra points in the ER algorithm. ;)
(I too have at least one not-received ER book that I have since read in a different way, and have deliberately not reviewed it because I don't want it to mess up the ER data.)
