I've been failing to keep up with my book thread but I just wanted to mention Leviathan Wakes which I recently finished. I had been looking forward to a good space opera but I wasn't expecting zombies in space. I could suspend my belief about the physics, but the biology was just too much of a stretch, so I won't be continuing this series.

>1 jjwilson61: Thanks for the warning. I've been thinking about reading something by Corey, who keeps popping up in my recommendations. I'll definitely stay away from that book/series. Zombies is very much not my thing.

I was put off continuing with the series because I couldn't stand the character of Holden. He was such a self-righteous prig that he set my teeth on edge every scene he was in - which was at least half of the book!

I didn't start a 2020 thread, but I wanted to mention that my county library system has finally reopened for curbside pickup, whatever that entails. I've put Revenant Gun and The Origin of Language on hold and I'll figure it out when they come in. It

>4 jjwilson61: That's good news! Our library has a covered porch, so items are placed in brown bags with names on them for patrons to collect.

>4 jjwilson61: Oh, I love Yoon Ha Lee! IMHO Revenant gun wasn't as strong as the previous two in the trilogy, but still absolutely worth it.

I just hope that I remember enough of the previous books for it to make sense to me.

As I remember it the story makes a timeline jump forward in Revenant Gun, which makes it a bit hard to get a grip on the continuity anyway.

I just finished The Three Body Problem and found it lacking.I couldn't believe that that many people would want to wipe out humanity and the virtual reality game didn't make a lot of sense. It gave me somewhat of the same depressing feeling I had reading Blood Music.

Really? I didn't find Blood Music depressing at all. The idea of the thought universe was really uplifting I thought.

Warded Man by Peter Brett. I mostly enjoyed this book. It had a very imaginative world with dangerous creatures rising out of the ground every night making life for humans dangerous. Only wards drawn onto surfaces make life possible.
But it was ruined by the unrealistic depiction of the effects of rape on one of the main characters.Leesha was brutally raped while traveling between settlements but got over it pretty quickly. Ok, she's a tough person and there were dangers she had to deal with but she never dealt with it at all for the rest of the book. Worse, only a day or two after the rape she was eager to have sex with her rescuer.
I don't believe I'll continue with this series.

>12 jjwilson61: It sounds like you made the right choice. I'm surprised to see it has such a high rating here on LT, but I guess that suggests the rest of the story is solid.
