how do I let patrons view ALL THE BOOKS in my library?

Dear helpers

I want to allow my patrons – via tinycat – to view ALL THE BOOKS in my library (there only 86 of them), But I cannot find a wat to do so.
Can you please help me with that?
I have tried using this feature : https://www.librarything.com/allyourcovers.php but i cannot seem to use in in Tinycat, but only use this url through my Library-thing account as admin, and this is not helpful for me or my patrons.
Thank you
Ronen Sidi

Hi Ronan Sidi.

The only way I can think of to do that is to do an advanced search and set the collection to "Your library" and leave the search field blank.

Or are you wanting a 'shelf display' like the one that shows for series (E.g. https://www.librarything.com/series/A+Quaker+Midwife+Mystery)?

In LT you can set the display to show covers. If you set it to show the maximum rows, that would make your entire library visible with a bit of scrolling. Is that what you're wanting?

In the end I'm curious about why you want them to see all of the books. What purpose would that serve?

Blessings,
Bevianne

>1 nitsanit: TinyCat doesn't have a browse feature (yet, though it's been discussed), but you can mimic one yourself by adding a link to a saved (Advanced) search within your own TinyCat.*

For example, if I run an Advanced Search within your TinyCat (https://www.librarycat.org/lib/nitsanit) for the "Your library" Collection (using the "Limit by" option): https://www.librarycat.org/lib/nitsanit/search/text/+collectionid%3A+1, I get all 86 records as results. You can add that search page URL as a shortcut to your TinyCat homepage for visitors and patrons. I hope this helps!

*Check out the "Pro-tips" section from our Help page for your Home page Settings: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/TinyCat:_Settings_%C2%BB_Home_page.

Got it. Thx

When I run this search, I get no results:

https://www.librarycat.org/lib/Ambassador_College/search/text/+collectionid%3A+1

Is there something wrong on my end, or are others seeing no results as well?

You aren't using the Your Library collection. Therefore you get no results when you search for it.

That URL is for the Your Library collection which you are not using. For the collections you have, you would use
https://www.librarycat.org/lib/Ambassador_College/search/text/+collectionid%3A+6...

https://www.librarycat.org/lib/Ambassador_College/search/text/+collectionid%3A+6...

That makes sense, thank you for clearing that up for me!

>2 VicRML: I just came into this conversation for the same reason Ronen Sidi. First, I would like to thank you for the information. It helps a lot. Second, to answer your question at the end.
I got Librarything/TinyCat to use as a library for an organization I volunteer with. Many people would like to 'browse' our books and see what we have, but I didn't know how to do that. If people can actually check out what books are in the library, they're more likely to use it rather than ONLY have the option to look up a specific book or title.

It's like having a catalog. People can always type in specific items, but if you allow them a full browsing catalog to look at, they'll find more than they realized was there.

I hope that made sense and answers your question.

I can think of two ways:
On the Home page of your catalog all the covers of the books scroll along below the search bar. Patrons can see them all eventually but it takes a while depending on how many books a library has.

The other way is to type an asterisk * in the search bar and the entire list will be displayed, one page at a time.

Hope this helps.

>11 GraceCovenantClay: I just tried searching my small organizations's books by using the asterisk (*) and got no results. Is there another symbol used for a wildcard search in TinyCat?

Thanks in advance!

>12 SharedStitches: and >13 bnielsen: searching my library for

NOT funandsafe

gives all books in my library, so just negating anything that isn't found in the library will work, I think. So:

NOT safefordrinking

works just as well. Also

Collections: "Your library"

as suggested in >3 kristilabrie:

But you asked for a wildcard, so the question is still open. My guess is that wildcard searches can take a lot of server resources, so that they are not allowed. Elasticsearch can be configured to allow or disallow it.

Ah, this is fun to play with. Searching in TinyCat in my library for Fünf Freunde, finds "The Famous Five" books. 21 of them to be more exact. But it also displays the order in the series, i.e. The Famous Five (5). (You can get the same information by adding "Series" to one of your styles.)

The last information is not present in any of the export formats, AFAIK. Also I didn't know that I could search for series names like "Fünf Freunde". Nice! (And you can look at Other Names in the series information like:
https://www.librarything.com/nseries/923/The-Famous-Five
to get the other names, like "Fünf Freunde" or "Viisikko".

Stopping here, since I don't want to hijack the thread.

>2 VicRML: I have the same question. I am a member of a calligraphy guild and if I do not know what books are in the library I do not know what to put in the search bar.

Advanced search gives a number of possibilities to list entire catalogue. If all items are within a single collection, chose that one and search. If all are in English, choose language English and search. Basically, find one thing common to all items and search for that. Or as bnielsen suggested, search for something none of them have with NOT, e.g. NOT gbdk in the title.
