Donald Macleod presents a live recital from the Queen's Hall in which Italian pianist Beatrice Rana performs a programme of Chopin, Ravel and Stravinsky that showcases her poetic and expressive touch as well as a phenomenal technical ability. Cuarteto Casals.

The Barcelona-based Cuarteto Casals perform three highly contrasting quartets; The Bird from Haydn's set of six quartets from Opus 33, which was considered to be ground-breaking and crucial to the development of the string quartet form, written `in a new and special way" according to the composer. Bartok's intense third quartet which makes use of extended technique to dramatic effect, and Beethoven's expansive quartet from his Razumovsky'set commissioned by the Russian ambassador in Vienna at the time and performed live from the Queen's Hall. Presented by Donald Macleod. Haydn: Quartet in C major Op 33 No 3. Bartók: Quartet No 3, Sz 85. Interval at approx 11.45am: Rachel Podger starts her three concert Biber series this afternoon at the Edinburgh International Festival. The Rosary Sonatas - 15 mystical meditations on the life of Christ performed in Edinburgh's oldest concert hall, St Cecilia's Hall. Donald Macleod introduces Sonatas 1, 2 and 3 from her recording of the complete Rosary Sonatas for violin. Beethoven: Quartet in F major Op 59 No 1, 'Razumovsky'. Cuarteto Casals.

Amber Wagner and Malcolm Martineau.

Live from the Queen's Hall, American soprano Amber Wagner joins Edinburgh-born pianist Malcolm Martineau for a selection of rich romantic song. They begin with a selection of Bellini's three small arias, followed by Strauss' Four Last songs, written when he was in his 80s. After the interval Amber performs songs by fellow Americans Barber and Ives, before closing the recital with Wagner's five song settings of poetry by Mathilde Wesendonck. Presented by Donald Macleod. Doric Quartet and Brett Dean.

Live from the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, the Doric String Quartet perform Haydn's Joke quartet, a piece that caused Clara Schumann to laugh out loud. Then follows the European premiere of Hidden Agendas by Australian composer Brett Dean, written specifically for the Doric String Quartet and inspired by the extreme personalities in the current political climate. After the interval, Brett Dean joins the ensemble to perform what was to be Brahms' swan song, his second String Quintet Op 111. After the first rehearsals, Brahms' surgeon friend Theodor Billroth wrote to him saying `I have often reflected on the subject of what happiness is for humanity. Well, today in listening to your music, that was happiness." Haydn: String Quartet in E flat Hob 33 2, The Joke. John Butt and the Dunedin Consort.

The Dunedin Consort is joined live by music director John Butt on harpsichord for a selection of Bach's iconic work for keyboards, from the Queen's Hall. Joining them are three further leading harpsichord players - Richard Egarr, Diego Ares and Olga Pashchenko - for performances of Bach's concertos for three and four harpsichords, alongside his lively Brandenburg Concerto No 5 and his Italian Concerto, which forced one critic to admit it 'is to be regarded as a perfect model'. Presented by Kate Molleson.
