I just purchased and received the barcodes that are offered through LT. I am excited to have them and am looking forward to adding them to my books. It will greatly ease the check in/out process all my books cataloged here are for my classroom library.

My question is: Where do you put your barcodes for those that use them?

I want to make it a uniform as possible for all of my books. I will be the one doing the check in/out process or another adult will.

I have seen many place them near where the ISBN is. For our school library collection, I had them placed on the front cover but i realise with the TinyCat barcodes, once i covered it with scotch tape, the TinyCat barcode reader couldn't read it. I have had to resort placing them on the first inside page so it remains protected without a scotch-tape. I would be interested how others have used them. I only use the barcodes for duplicate copies tho and jus resort to scanning the ISBNs for all loans and returns.

>2 SAIGONSTAR:

A classroom library is why I am going through this process. I wanted a simple way to be able to check books in and out of my library for my students when I get done with my Elementary Ed degree and have my own classroom. Or even right now if I loan a book to a teacher at the school I'm the Permanent Sub at.

Thank you for the heads up about not putting tape over the barcodes. I was thinking of doing that to help protect the barcodes.

Most public libraries will place barcodes in one of these places: front cover - inside/outside, back cover - inside/outside, card pocket in front or back of book. If you are putting the barcode on the outside of the book, use label protectors (a.k.a. label shields). Also consider if you ever intend to run inventory on your collection. A barcode on the front/back cover near the spine means you have to just tip the book out to scan it.
