Hi, I tried my first upload and it didn't work. I have an excel ss which I formatted to match CSV format as far as headings of fields are concerned. Didn't change info inside field. Do I need to add commas somewhere within each field? or are there other reasons won't upload?? Thanks for helping a newbie!

The CSV uploads do work. What I did to help me get my fields correct was to 1st export some records in CSV from the Patrons in TinyCat and also from LibraryThing. Then take a look at the CSV file by opening it in Excel.
Now model you own Excel on this exactly - even if some fields are blank. Save As your Excel file and choose Text CSV. It will/should suggest comma separated values and " quotes for text delimiters.
The file should now import back correctly.

>1 sges: Which import are you trying to upload: patrons to https://www.librarycat.org/admin/patrons or holdings to https://www.librarything.com/import?

If the latter, you'll want to format your .csv import file headers to match our sample file headers exactly: no fewer headers, no more, and they must have the exact same names/spelling. Please see our Help page for how to run CSV Import and let me know if you have further questions: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/HelpThing:Import.

Yes I tried to follow that model. I believe my headers match but. Body of info doesnt. Is there anyone who could walk me through the process? Ty Georgis

The body of info doesn't have to match, but whatever you have under each column is the field where that data will import.

I've taken a look at your latest import file. It doesn't look like you actually saved your Excel file as a .csv file. I'm also seeing a grid formatting in the file that may certainly be messing things up. You have ISBNs in the 'DATE' column, and you have some numbers in your 'ISBN' column that aren't real ISBNs (they're not 10 or 13 digits, with standard ISBN formatting).

You may want to try downloading our sample .csv import file from the Universal Import page first (https://www.librarything.com/import) and copying/pasting the data you need into that file, to avoid having to mess with the formatting too much. Just make sure your file is still in .csv format when you upload it.

If you're still having trouble, you're more than welcome to email me at info@librarything.com, and I can take a further look at what else is going on.

Kristi,
You are right in that the file you saw wasn't formatted in csv. Today I saved the ss in csv format and imported and I think it worked. But don't see the isbn field which is the last field. Thanks Georgia Pribanic

>6 sges: Glad you found that out! If you follow our sample .csv import file exactly, the ISBN column will be 4th, not last. Try checking your import file once more?
