Okay here's to ending 2019 a very random reading year ..... 2020 is here & I intend to read more consistently, rather than mindlessly goofing off on SM ( its been my guilty pleasure in 2019 cause reasons ....)
apologise for dropping off the grid in LT land .....

Normally, my reading is heavily slanted toward Speculative fiction, science fiction and fantasy genre reading, with Historical, Crime & Lit in there as well .....
Read off my shelves (BOMBs) & libraries first, but I say that every year & fail miserably due to my Inner Magpie - look shiny new thing .... but last 2 years have been vast improvement on previous attempts
You won't find me in the challenges, but will pop in & chat when the moment takes me ....
75+ Books probably not as am slow reader & life gets in the way, but you never know miracles do happen, I did hit 50+ last year so my reading is coming back to life ...
Oh yeah if you haven't guessed am based down under (NZ)
In my spare time I complete Ultra marathons .... so expect the normal dips of quietness

Incoming Audiobooks:
Dark Emu def worth a listen with what is currently going on in Australia
Reality is not what it seems
Current library haul:
The wild places another great one by Robert Macfarlane
Mountains of the mind
The Rise of ultra runners
10 minutes 38 seconds in this strange world
trying a new thing of taking at lunch break, that is not a gym time break ... did it once & did not kill me, so maybe once a week 🤓
Book reading is light as head into my main event, but I have good intentions, hence audiobooks as well
Happy new year everyone .....

Hi Alex - I'm currently listening to Hamilton's second Salvation book. I'm not hugely invested in this trilogy and probably should have waited for all three books. I really enjoyed both Fallen Dragon and Great North Road. My current speculative focus is Neal Stephenson, there are at least 3 of his I want to get to once I'm done with Salvation Lost.
Anyway good luck with your 2020 reading plans.

Missing you over here, Alex.

Alex !

Hope you have had a lovely, peaceful, safe and healthy weekend, Alex
19PaulCranswick
I wanted my message this year to be fairly universal in a time we all should be pulling together, whatever our beliefs. Happy Celebration, Happy Sunday, Alex
20PaulCranswick
And a belated birthday wish here too. I did wish you on FB as you don't seem to visit here much these days!
21PaulCranswick
Since the last half dozen messages over here are mine, Alex, I am guessing you have rather given up on us all.
Hope you are ok.

Just popping by to say that I see you have The political Years by Marilyn Waring listed amongst your books! I am reading this at present, it is so interesting. It is giving me good lessons about how it was for my mother when she was my age and younger, fancy being a woman in Muldoon's New Zealand an the 1970s!!

I am back ..... fell into a deep book funk & well we all know 2020 has been a tough one - been too exhausted to read ... podcasts & now audiobooks have been my way back.
sometimes you need to right book to bring you back for me that was Ministry of the Future (see LT touchstones are still as bad as ever ) Kim Stanley Robinson
I am not going to promise to catch up with you all ... but will be more active come 2021 version of the group 🤓

>22 LovingLit: Yes 1970's were ... ummm interesting times to live in NZ .... sometimes i think, we have not changed as much as we like to think .. ( Fact we gave propertied woman the vote first, but since then .... well not so great)
25PaulCranswick
Great to see you posting Alex. Missed you mate.

>24 roundballnz: it dawned on me just how parochial (word of the day!!!) the whole of NZ is/was when I read Sue McCauley's Other Halves many years ago. It was a book I saw on many of my friends' parents shelves, everyone seemed to have it. Even though it's fiction, it is so telling of how backwards our collective thinking was in the 80s!
PS I recommend The Political Years still :)

>27 LovingLit: Other Halves now that brings back memories .... Lived thru 70/80's stuff NZ todays is/can be very different, but that stuff is still there if you scratch the surface esp outside main cities. One of the reasons i live in Auckland, you can be different here ...
Current reading haul from library
10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World
