Hi there!

I have written a novel based upon the three laws of robotics of Isaac Asimov titled "A MURDER IN 2079" and sent it to literary agents located both in the US and UK. But unfortunately it got rejected over 100. I think literary agents and publishers do not want quality books, subjects and autors. But they want only boks that they believe they will sell! So I have self-published it. Bu this time I saw that it is too expensive to market it . Oh! I do not know how to market and promote it succesfully.

Just curious - I thought this group was one of the exceptions to flagging self-marketing. No?

"Do not post messages in Talk advertising your book. You can promote your book in Hobnob with Authors, but posting a blurb about your book and never coming back to discuss it is still seen as overt advertising."

This same message has been posted in (at least) three different groups.

I'm of two minds here.

He's really looking for marketing advice, which is fine in this group. There are lots of other threads in the group about finding an agent, self-publishing, marketing, etc.

I'm bothered by what MarthaJeanne says about multiple posts, though.

If your book is written with any similarity to your post here, I'd suggest heavily editing it (or finding an editor) before attempting to publish.

Also, as most of Asimov's works are still under copyright, you'll face an uphill battle publishing/selling it unless you "file off the serial numbers."

>2 Cecrow: Hobnob with Authors or the Writer Rag and Brag bag (or something like that.) This group was never an approved advertising group. If he wanted help, he should ask it as a question.

>5 aethercowboy: Not to mention that Science Fiction has moved on a lot since Asimov.

Of course publishers and agents want to sell books. That's their business. Personally, as a reader, I am grateful to them for going through the mountain of books being written, and finding some that might actually be worth spending my money and time on.

For a while I was reading some books from Member Giveaways, until I noticed that these self published books weren't worth what I was paying for them. At the very least a self published author needs to give the marketing texts at least as much care as his book. If the marketing text is badly presented and not pleasant to read, it is hardly going to make anyone want to read more by the same writer.
