We have over a thousand members listed for this group, so now that I've been given the role of the group's administrator, it seems like the time to welcome and re-invite everyone back to the group. Feel free to say hello.

The feminist theory group is a little different from other groups on LibraryThing in that it has a moderator (also me) who is tasked with the job of making sure posts follow the group terms:

We seek on-topic, respectful, and constructive discussion about feminism. The validity of feminism is a given. Dissent is acceptable; disruption is not. Comments should pertain to the thread topic. Obnoxious, insulting, abusive, and threatening comments are unacceptable.

The creation of a moderator was an experiment for LT, which I think might be considered a success since once the position was created, it was almost never needed. I hope, though, that the existence of a moderator will encourage some members to return or post more often.

Here is some information about me:

I'm in my mid-fifties and work in the bookselling industry. I live in the American South. I sort of fell into feminism after taking a class with Mary Daly, after which I signed up for every class of hers I could get into. I'm definitely a child of "Second Wave Feminism" -- Mary Daly, Andrea Dworkin, Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, Robin Morgan. And an important part of my bookselling career has revolved around feminist presses and bringing more women's voices into print.

Thank you for being our moderator, >1 southernbooklady:. This is one of my favorite places to lurk online. Thanks to everyone who posts here. And salut to another bookish woman in her mid-fifties who isn't afraid to say so!
