I was in the Zebra Romance Book Club in the 80's . They sent 4 books a month, and I devoured them. Anyone else a fan of the Zebra / bodice ripper era?

Never having heard of the Zebra Romance Book Club my first thought when I saw this topic title was that it was actually about zebras. I saw a small herd half a mile from my house just last week. Apologies for this off topic observation!

>1 Danelle.Griffin: I did not belong to the Zebra Romance Book Club, but for a couple of months did belong to the Harlequin Romance Book Club; but after about 8 books, all very alike in plot, I quit the club. I think the appeal was I got 4 or 5 free books for just signing up!

My best friend’s mom had a collection of lurid romances stashed in their attic. I have no idea if they were a particular “brand,” but curiosity was quickly satisfied and we left that pile alone.

>1 Danelle.Griffin: Zebra has an interesting history. Lots of historical romance, but also some paranormal romance. Looks like they're still publishing but hit their peak in the 1980s when you were a subscriber. I will have to check out one or two. Sometimes there are hidden gems among pulp writers!

I had subscriptions to several Harlequin clubs at one time. I had a huge collection of Harlequin Historicals, also had some regular Harlequin Romance, and some Harlequin Desire (with the luscious red covers!). That was when I was teaching middle school full time in the F2F classroom and had time "off" in the summer. I would read all day whilst sitting outside in the sun, sometimes devouring several books in one day.
