Arubabookwoman's Busy Needle

This is a picture of a quilt I made in 2000. The fad then was to make a quilt using more than 2000 separate fabrics. This one has more than 2100 (I later discovered I used one fabric twice, which broke the rules, I guess).

It is mostly handpieced, though there are 5-6 machine sewn longer seams. I handpieced it because I was working full time, and had lots of little kids, so handpiecing meant I could carry the project around with me. The individual squares are about 3/4 inches. It is also hand quilted.

Hello All! I'm Deborah. I'm trying to figure out how to upload pictures here, but I hope to begin to participate in this group soon.

I've been quilting since about 1990, and that is my primary form of needlework, though I occasionally knit, cross stitch, and needlepoint. I began making bed quilts, but for the last 15 years or so I morphed into art quilts. Nowadays I mostly do little needlwork things that are almost all handwork, "appliqued" (fabric on fabric) and heavily stitched (embroidered), that mostly go in frames on the wall, so I'm not sure they're still really quilts. I still make the occasional bed quilt for a grandchild.

This year, in honor of my 50th anniversary, I decided to make an "updated" Baltimore Album quilt. Yesterday I started by cutting out the background fabric. If I get the hang of posting pictures, I will post a picture of the pattern.

My other big project this year is to start making Christmas stockings for my grandchildren. I made stockings for my oldest two children when they were small. The younger three didn't get homemade stockings. Now that my oldest son has kids of his own, (and he still has his childhood stocking), he has said how much he would like it if I made stockings for his two kids. He has said this the last 3 Christmases, so third time is the charm, and I have started stockings for his two kids, hoping to finish before Christmas.

The stockings are from kits. They are needlepoint.

This is the code you need:

<img src="https://pics.cdn.librarything.com//picsizes/dc/ab/dcab66baceb5e76636d6d587851444541564942_v5.jpg">

This is the result:

P.S. It's a beautiful quilt!! :)

>5 lesmel: Thank you! But where did you get that code. I pasted the code that was copied from member gallery in message >1 arubabookwoman:. It looks like there are additional numbers etc at the end.

It's a gorgeous quilt!

>6 arubabookwoman: You have the right address -- LT shortens addresses when they are just pasted into messages.

Like so: https://pics.cdn.librarything.com//picsizes/dc/ab/dcab66baceb5e76636d6d587851444...

It looks like you are missing part of the HTML code. If you edit your message in >1 arubabookwoman:, look to see if = " (either of them) or > is missing

>8 lesmel: I was missing the " and the final >. However, when I edited and added the quotation marks and the final >, the link disappeared altogether, and no picture appeared. See >1 arubabookwoman:. Any suggestions?

But look. I was able to post another picture in >4 arubabookwoman:, so that's progress. (obviously it needs to be rotated, but that might be too advanced for right now).

If I'm not saying it enough, I really appreciate all the time you are taking to help me. I've been on LT for 11 years, and have been frustrated about trying to upload pictures for 11 years. I'm determined to get it right this time.

Well, this is what I get when I think I have done everything right. I took an image from my member gallery, copied on my iPad, pasted from my iPad, made sure the “ and the bracket things were where they were supposed to be, and there’s the result. I am going to try once more, this time from the computer, since I got the stocking to appear thru the computer rather than the ipad.

ETA After wonderfully clear instructions from lesmel, it now works on my iPad too! I am so excited.

>9 arubabookwoman: I think you might be missing the = now in >1 arubabookwoman:.

I have found it is sometimes easier to prep the message with the HTML code and then add the image address

<img src="">

I'm less likely to bork my image code when I know I need to get my cursor between the two " " and paste.

OMG SUCCESS!!!!

Maybe I will just have to stick to downloading from my member gallery to a post on my computer.

Many thanks to those who walked me through this!

See >1 arubabookwoman: for info re this quilt.

>12 arubabookwoman: woot!

Looking at >10 arubabookwoman:, I think there's some weird text added to the image address. OH!! I think you have smart quotes on in your iPad. Ok, you need to turn those off or you will have nothing but more trouble.

On your iPad go to Settings > General > Keyboard. Toggle Smart Punctuation off (from green to grey). Now, when you add " you will get straight quotes and not curly quotes.

Once you make the settings change, you should be able to go back to your various messages, edit them to correct the " and hopefully, you will get pretty pretty pictures!

YEAH! Sometimes it takes awhile. And that's a fabulous quilt. I've seen similar ones in the last few years, but instead of all individual tiny squares, the blocks are like partial log cabin blocks.

ETA: I'm looking forward to seeing some of your art quilts too.

>13 lesmel: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've now fixed >10 arubabookwoman: from my ipad (after fixing settings as you suggested) and have gotten the image to appear. And >1 arubabookwoman: is fixed. So it looks like I will be able to post pics from my member gallery with either ipad or computer. I'm so excited.

>10 arubabookwoman: Congratulations on sorting out the picture posting! It is devilish to learn but the more you do it the easier it gets.

And this quilt is absolutely stunning! I just love it.

>13 lesmel: OMG, smart quotes. I forgot all about those pesky things, which look pretty but are useless in HTML code. Well spotted, Eagle Eyes!

Deborah, I am so excited for you, unlocking the secrets of posting photos after so many years of feeling frustrated. I also adore your quilt and can't wait to see more of your creations.

>1 arubabookwoman: Glad you got the photo posting down! Hand-pieced and hand-sewn! You must be a quilting saint (but I do very much understand the adaptation necessary).

I did not realize that was a fad at that time. I still like using scraps and theoretically not repeating fabrics. The last top I finished had one print that was duplicated

>2 arubabookwoman: I used to do other needlecrafts...etc but over the decades I've slowly let go of a lot of the other things. Not that I'm not tempted at times to pick this or that up again...

>4 arubabookwoman: That's gorgeous, Deborah! My mother knit my children's stockings and I made a few for friend's children and sons-inlaw, before my younger daughter took up knitting and assumed the role as family stocking maker.

Hi Lois-Thanks for checking in on me. I really want to activate this thread, but things kind of came to a standstill in mid-March when we acquired Dulci, a puppy, aka The Holy Terror. Then a few weeks later my husband began having some medical issues which incapacitated him and basically made him an invalid. He's been in the hospital with pneumonia and a double fracture of his sacral bone from a fall, but is finally heading to rehab today or tomorrow, and may be home in 2-3 weeks. Hope this isn't TMI; I really do want to participate, and hope to become active within the next few weeks. Will probably have to learn to do photos all over again.

>22 arubabookwoman: No worries about the TMI! I'm sorry to hear that your husband has issues and difficulties. Sound like things are starting to improve. Hope Dulci is moderating with age.... And I hope you are bearing all this okay, it sounds like a lot....XX

Oh, I'm so sorry that your husband (and you, too!) have had such a rough go lately! Here's hoping the rehab goes even better and easier than expected. *hugs*

Oof, you've had a tough time of things indeed. I hope the rehab works its magic quickly.
