The whole site was completely down for me while I got "Failed to get a read connection to the database." Did this happen to anyone else?

>1 the_red_shoes: Happened to me as well, but seems to be OK now.

Yes, but just once

Sorry for the trouble, all - the database got backed up for a little bit around the time this was posted. Should be okay now!

Yes, sorry, same issues. We're monitoring! Thanks for your patience.

>6 kristilabrie: I just got the message again, shouldn't this be reopened?

The site sometimes - very rarely, actually - goes down. Opening a bug report does not help.

>12 the_red_shoes: You're very welcome to reopen if you like; our sysadmin is actively monitoring our servers for slowness right now, so the outcome will be the same regardless. Thanks for your patience.

Just had it happen again at 1:26PM.

I had it, too, but another site was also not loading at the same time. A third site did load. So was it LT and *****? Was it my ISP, which for some reason let one through, but not the others? Or was part of the web having trouble that let the UK site work but not the US and German?

Since the site came back up I've been getting periodic messages:
"This site can’t be reached
www.librarything.com refused to connect."
Was it something I said?

I'm seeing more problems from about 5pm EST (9pm UTC) so if you get further messages like this—until devs can get a handle on them—I wouldn't be surprised. Sorry for the trouble.
20Nicole_VanK
Can you please add UTC in future. EST is just confusing on an international forum.
21kristilabrie
>20 Nicole_VanK: I'll try to remember that, thanks. Updated >19 kristilabrie: at least.

And when it's actually Daylight Savings Time, EST is confusing for those of us in the US who have to be careful about time zones! "Does she *really* mean EST, even though we're in EDT now, or does she actually mean "Eastern Time"?
23kristilabrie
Drat! I thought I was correct, definitely getting my S/D mixed up. Sorry about that.

Is this related? I'm on my laptop and not able to search the site. I get this message:
www.librarything.com says
TypeError: Cannot read property 'text' of null

>24 2wonderY: I'm seeing the # of searches spike up quite a bit right around the time you posted: is it still failing for you? Is it failing on every search, or only some (if so, any examples)?
