I'm at the Osthorne Academy for Young Mages in Magic for Liars.

I'm also at an academy! Following Nevarre Burelle to cadet academy in Shaman's Crossing, the first of the Soldier Son trilogy by Robin Hobb.

So far it's not as engrossing as the Elderlings books but the characters are interesting.

I finished up Nice Dragons Finish Last (on audiobook) and The Bone Houses (regular reading). Enjoyed both of them quite a bit.

The audiobook of Nice Dragons Finish Last was a lot of fun. It's a dialogue-heavy book, and the narrator does a great job with the character voices. I look forward to spending more time with this cast and meeting other members of the Heartstriker family (I assume we do meet more of them in further books).

The Bone Houses has one of my favorite YA heroines I've read in a while, and has a lot more heart than a book I went into knowing mainly that it "had zombies".

Currently moving on to more vampiric topics (appropriately in 1800's London) with Hide Me Among the Graves.

I finished Warbreaker last night. For once I agree with the majority of the reviews I've read - a very strong effort by Brandon Sanderson. The ending was a bit abrupt, but the plotlines still wrap up in typical Sanderson fashion. It could easily have a sequel (or two), but I believe that Stormlight and Mistborn Era 2 will take up 100% of his Cosmere energy for now. As a bonus, he writes short commentaries on every chapter which give the reader additional insight to his process.

I'm skipping back to SF with Inversions.

>14 seitherin: I used to buy everything by CDL as soon as it was published, but he dropped off my radar a few years ago. This one sounds like he is back on good form.

Just treated myself to The Illustrated Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. Sorry can't seem to get Touchstone to link correctly for this. Big fan of Sir Terry and this is a beautiful edition of the first City Watch Discworld novel. As there are sadly no new books that we shall see, at least we can have some of these beautiful new editions.
Lovely re-read with some gorgeous prints and drawings.

>19 Niko: According to wikipedia, it was indeed. That's the first I have heard of this tv show! I might have to check it out. I'm still in the first half of the book, but so far it would translate quite well to television, I believe.

>22 Kanarthi: I only managed to catch the first few episodes, but it seemed like it could get good. I was intrigued by the setting... both for being primarily focused on Native Peoples, and also specifically the Canadian experience for that. :)

I'm cycling back to alternate Atlanta for Magic Stars, a short story, and then Magic Binds.

>23 Niko: I'll definitely have to check out at least the first episode, but I plan to wait until I finish the book (and possibly also the sequel).

>23 Niko: Okay, upon actually finishing the book (quite good, although the fantasy elements to come to the forefront relatively slowly), I have revised my estimate that it is a great fit for a television show. It's very character focused, but the supernatural elements in the action-heavy climax could very easily go wrong. I'll still probably watch at least one episode to see.

I'm stepping outside of SF/Fantasy for a bit to read The Count of Monte Cristo - the unabridged Penguin version, which seems to have received the best reviews in terms of the translation into English.

Roaming the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms in The Kingdom of Gods. (I read the first book when it came out, but I never did finish the trilogy -- until now.)

>31 ScarletBea: I'm glad you are enjoying it - I had such fun with it too and consider it the best thing I read last year. The author is very clever, and I think it ends really well.

Just finished Juniper Wiles by Charles de Lint. He wasn't in his top form, but still plenty of magic, and enjoyable. It was more a novella, but did end with a hint of future adventures for Juniper. I recently reread Someplace to be Flying -- now there's de Lint top form -- and it was fun to meet some of those folks again.
