Found: Fairy Tale

I remember a fairy tale about a boy who was wearing a hat or cap with a feather in it. Each time he took the hat off, the hat was still on his head. So, he had a hat in his hand and there it was on his head as well. He would throw away the hat he took off. He was trying to remove the hat/ hats for good. That's all I remember. From a book about 40 years ago and the book was old then.
