Can't access Change Cover

I am having the same problem.

I'm experiencing the same problem. The cover info / edit box won't come up for me.

I can still upload covers - but not select from covers that are already available.

Firefox 89.0.1

I have the same problem, which I have worked around by right-clicking the image, choosing "Copy image location", and pasting that into the "grab an image from the web" box where you can enter a URL.
But obviously Something Is Awry!!

I'm on 2 different Macs with Safari and Chrome.

I cannot select a cover under change cover menu item. The bubble "select this cover" does not appear. I could upload a cover from the web, save to my photos and then upload it. I see others are having similar problems.

I'm having the same problem with the covers today.

Also having this problem. I was able to upload a cover but cannot select an existing cover to choose it.

That is not new behavior; it's always been that way. And a good thing, too.

The onhover event is erroring (somewhere in JQuery I think) with the error: "Failed to execute 'querySelectorAll' on 'Document': '#object HTMLDivElement' is not a valid selector."

same here, using safari. I click on the cover to choose it and nothing happens. So irritating.

I am also having the same problem with changing covers - thanks for looking into this!

Thanks for the note. Clearly something in the JS has broken. I'm going to let Chris know about it, as I suspect it's connected to some work he was doing.

Sorry. You're probably right about the fix, but I can't fix it without Chris' help. I know he's made a lot of JS changes recently, and I don't want to wade in. If he can't get to it tomorrow--it being Sunday--I'll see if I can fix it, and not break something else!

Not being able to change the cover should not have prevented you from cataloguing your books. Did you have some other issue?

>27 lilithcat: It surely depends on how you catalog your books. If one of the most important things is the cover to you, you may have to put aside a pile of books for cataloging until you can fix that as well.

I can't get a custom cover to display - Custom cover #13187735 on A diary with letters, 1931-1950 it just shews as the little icon with the name of the book.

UPDATE - 18:57 UTC

Well the site just told me that Athena (the goddess? the poster company?) wanted me to sign in, so I closed that tab and opened another. That didn't ask me to sign in, and the picture now displays.

Somehow we have a server problem that is occasionally directing traffic to that particular server. We're trying to track it down, so thank you for the report.

When you say you were seeing just "the little icon with the name of the book", do you mean one of LibraryThing's default "fake" covers was showing instead of the cover you uploaded? I uploaded a new cover for A diary with letters, 1931-1950 , and it wouldn't display properly. There's a sort of "error picture" that displays with the title of the work - NOT one of the default/fake covers.

I think I refreshed the page a couple of times, it still wouldn't display properly.

Uploaded the image again (in case the file had got corrupted somehow), had the same problem. On my home page in "Recently added" it was displaying a miniscule square where the cover picture should have been.

Found this thread and thought it was probably a related problem, so posted. The site did seem rather slow while I was doing all this.

Back to the book page, tried another reload, and got the Athena log in - it was in a sort of pop-up near the top of the screen.

Closed that tab, went to another already open at the book, refreshed and the cover was shewing the one I had uploaded second - but the first one also was in the popular covers box. The first one has gone now. My cover is the plain brown cloth one - couldn't afford a copy with a dust-jacket!

Came back here to update. Site seemed to have speeded up again.

We haven't been able to reproduce it, but it shouldn't be happening nonetheless. I'm noticing from other member's reports that it happens when the site is having trouble. Beyond that, I'm not sure of the commonalities. Would also be helpful to include your operating system, web browser, and exactly what thing you were trying to do before and after the login prompt/s. I used to be able to change covers in the iPhone App, but now I can't find that option. Is anyone else having this problem?

If so, we're looking into a way to add cover-changing capabilities (from existing covers on LT, rather than only uploading your own from the "Cover Explorer" feature) within the App, and we'll announce when this happens.
