Information for covers in Charts and Graphs not correct

The number of covers shown in the new Charts and Graphs section does not add up to the number of books I have - only 4867 covers for 9600 books.

It appears that none of the covers I have uploaded since 2016 have been added to the total.

Also, when I look at the Amazon sourced covers I am supposed to be using, I find that some of my recently uploaded covers are not there, and that the books have no member uploaded covers.

Is this a temporary glitch?

Do I need to reupload covers for these works (and lots of others)?

Never mind :) Apparently both ways work.

The old cover stat showed only automatically chosen covers, either from Amazon or member-uploaded, and none of the ones we upload or chose the one from another member. I think this has just inherited the same principle. My cover stats show for only 8 books, all the rest are not there at all

Thanks. It was working yesterday, when we also realized the new code—which made it work—was messing up actual cover display. To fix it we had to break it, as it were. I'll be working on it today and tomorrow.

Indeed, mine still shows only 8. Among other things, it's not showing any I personally uploaded

My total books according to https://www.librarything.com/stats/DuncanHill/covers has actually gone down by one since the 4th of October, even though my total according to https://www.librarything.com/catalog/DuncanHill has increased by three.

And two months after the last message it is still an issue.

I always thought that they never gave us a stat for our personal photos uploaded, because they didn't track them prior to a certain point and as such didn't include them in any counts. Notice that none of the stats on that page show anything regarding your uploads. Just Amazon photos and covers based on guess or selection. Nothing at all about uploads.

Bump. My graph for covers is absurdly incorrect. It says I only have 112 books when I have "All Books" selected. I have 2,900 books catalogued here.

I'm missing over 1 000 books there, too.

I did some poking into this and I have discovered this information:
-- If you've uploaded a cover photo, it's not counting it.
-- If you've actively chosen a cover (gone through the options and picked one), it's not counting it.

Most important
-- If the system is guessing a cover, it is counting it.
-- If there is no cover, it is counting it.

Now the question is why is the code set up like this?

It almost feels like a "fix these covers because they can change or because you have no covers" module and not a "Covers" module.

Verified counts are wrong:

It counts only 8 of +3000 books. Apparently, covers we uploaded and member-uploaded covers we've explicit chosen do not count. In my case, that's all expect for those 8 in wishlist, which have the default cover given by the system for that ISBN

I may have a solution for this problem; basically, a type was getting left out of the counts (something that seems to be "custom"), but I don't know exactly what the type means. I can at least add it in so the counts add up to the right value (I think), and you can click through to the catalog. However, I can't say how they're different from other covers...

yeah, that seems to be it... when I went to the "no covers" and selected a cover for that then that book moved from "no covers" to "custom"

Not sure why those don't fall into the other chosen by you... maybe it's when we can't determine the quality of it? because the member-uploaded cover section is all divided into low and high quality?

Updating the chart at least so that the counts match up now.

So how do I get covers out of "custom"? They're all member-uploaded chosen by me. Most of them are high quality. I try re-selecting the cover and it stays as "custom".

Doing some investigation, it looks like all books added after May 18, 2016 have a "custom" cover - that's the latest date for which my stats show a "high quality, chosen by you" cover. Some older books do as well but I'm guessing those are ones where I chose the current cover after that date. Were there any changes made to the cover code around that time?

If you're trying to force us back to Amazon covers it's not working!

It occurs to me that my hypothesis could be tested by someone uploading a new cover for something currently showing as "Member-uploaded cover, chosen by you" - if the uploaded date of the cover is what's causing the problem, this would shove it into "Custom".

I don't want to make my stats worse than they already are, so I won't be testing this myself.

Re-opening. Mis-classifying a large number of my covers is not "fixed".
