Spammer removed but spam post still present

I noticed in a very old thread that a spammer had been removed but their spam post with link was still visible: https://www.librarything.com/topic/189365#5281901

I thought such posts were supposed to disappear along with the removal of the member. Am I incorrect about that?

Definitely a bug. I just gave it the fourth flag, and the link is dead, but the post can still be seen.

Curious if this was some sort of server blip or if the post finally got hidden with more flags...? I'll keep this deferred, for now, in case there's still an active bug here (and we just need to find a current example of it). But, the spam post is at least hidden now.

>3 kristilabrie: Usually if a spammer is removed, their message is completely removed and replaced with "This user has been removed as spam."

Examples:
https://www.librarything.com/topic/334884#7593314
https://www.librarything.com/topic/328245#7593315

Posts that are hidden by flags but not fully removed are usually those who have not had their account removed, like overenthusiastic authors or people who say something rude.

It's hidden, but can still be seen if you click "show".

Normally, the post would disappear altogether. Compare https://www.librarything.com/topic/336145#7635108

My flag was the first and did not show on the post until someone else also flagged it.

That is standard.

Okay, so this one's weird, I'm not sure what's going on. The account wasn't actually marked as spam or even deleted on our end, that I could see, and yet the "This member has been removed." message is on their profile page.

I've marked them as spam, so the spam message is on their post. Keeping this open, though, in case something else is awry. Will dig a bit on this.

Until I put the fourth flag on, the link was active.

>11 AnnieMod: They could have but they would've showed up as such for me. Unless they restored their account after previously deleting it, that could have certainly done it.

This was from 2015, so the underlying code could be different from today.

>12 kristilabrie: Or maybe they were deleted in a weird way - the code base had changed a lot (as >13 MarthaJeanne: pointed out) and who knows what was being done back then exactly.

>14 AnnieMod: to my knowledge, we haven't changed the way accounts are deleted at least since I've been here (c. 2014), but it could've been some other "blip"

Closing for now, but please reopen if this crops up again.

Okay, maybe another delay? The message is hidden for me, now.

Personal note for checking later: the post at >17 Taphophile13: says, "This message has been flagged by multiple users and is no longer displayed (show)" whereas the post at >1 Taphophile13: says, "This user has been removed as spam. This message has been flagged by multiple users and is no longer displayed (show)"

Great, thanks for this, I've got a head cold so am running a bit slower this week.

So, I think there’s two issues happening:
1. accounts aren’t getting properly marked as spam when they need to be (EdwardMcLean isn't marked as spam on my end, where it should be, even though the profile says the account's been removed. This is new behavior, something's missing.)
2. accounts that are marked as spam are still showing the “This message has been flagged by multiple users and is no longer displayed (show)” under “This user has been removed as spam.” on any of their Talk posts (even if the “show” doesn’t actually show anything, that line shouldn’t be showing for spam accounts).

Going to need to dig into this with developers.

Okay, I believe timspalding has fixed this but please let me know if you see any issues with this crop up again!

We're now having some issues over in the spam fighters group which could be related to these changes (or just a coincidence that the problems started yesterday). Spam accounts are not being suspended as quickly as they were before.

>22 norabelle414: Okay, looking at current example: https://www.librarything.com/topic/334664#7684685 timspalding is out today but I'll circle back on this, if you can please keep posting new examples as needed. I suspect they're getting calculated each morning, maybe, judging by the timeline but Tim will be able to give me more information. Thanks!

Not sure where to put this, so posting it here too. A spammer also created a wiki page (profile is suspended) that is still there:
