I just wanted to come here and wish all of you a Merry Christmas and happy holiday season. I’ve had a tough year (though honestly nothing to complain about in the grand scheme of things) and coming on here to talk about books and to look back at old chats has always been really relaxing. Here’s hoping we all have nice books to enjoy and maybe new books under the tree!

Happy holidays everyone!

As an addendum to >3 ironjaw: above: here’s to 2022 being the year that I finally can celebrate Christmas in a hot climate in an undisclosed tropical island 🏝

Merry Christmas / Happy holidays one and all from Down Under.
We’ve been enjoying (in Victoria) a sunny but gently warm stretch of weather. So, a mild and very pleasant start to summer. Here’s hoping La Niña brings more of the same and not too many 40+ degree, fire ban days.
I’m reading Madame Bovary for the first time - what a book. (Drop Caps edition, not Folio!) Then, onto Hitchhikers I think! (Book 4) And then maybe Dune…

Merry Christmas from Mauritius!
Can we swap places please? A tropical island for somewhere colder (with snow preferably)?

Merry Christmas! Here is a small gift (it's a strangely long URL but I'm told it's freely shareable from The New York Times without need for a subscription): https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/24/realestate/why-do-people-keep-books.html?unlo....

Happy Christmas all. Cheers! Good Health! ...and may your shelves always have room for one more book.

>36 AMindForeverVoyaging:
A lovely article to read.
It is now Boxing Day in Australia as I recover from a lovely Christmas Day on an island (North Stradbroke) off the coast of Brisbane where it is a balmy 27C.
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and looking forward to another year of book buying in 2022.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sorry for being late to the party, but I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and happy holidays. And Happy New Year everyone! May it bring you all many Folios, plenty of good reading, and, hopefully, a return to normalcy.
Anyone got any Folios under the tree? Santa wasn't as generous to me as in some of the previous years - I guess I was a bit naughty - but he did bring one for me.

>42 elladan0891: Yes, best beloved got me Ubik, and somewhat Folio-related, he must have been paying attention when my copy of the Aurora Australis arrived a few weeks back, as he also got me a framed historical map of Antarctica! A very good haul for me, I was absolutely delighted.
Which FS book did Santa bring you, if I may ask? :)

>43 agitationalporcelain: Very nice! Ubik is on my wishlist, and I would love a framed map of Antarctica to go along with my Aurora Australis! Actually, I should obtain and frame maps of Arctic archipelagos where my great-grandfather wintered. Don't know why I've never thought of this before, but thanks for triggering the idea!
This year my better half decided to gift me something related to my other interests, butmy father Santa noticed that my shelves are missing a couple of Poirots and got me Five Little Pigs. I added The Murder of Roger Ackroyd to my sale order to complete the Poirots, and now, slowly and unexpectedly, Christie has become one of the most represented authors among my Folios. I'm not a fan of mystery/detectives, but I do enjoy reading Christie once in a while. Fun and well-written.

>44 elladan0891: A collection of arctic archipelago maps sounds like a wonderful project! I remember reading your post in the Aurora thread about your great-grandfather's experiences and found it fascinating - thanks for sharing it. My boyfriend's going to be utterly bemused that he's managed to kick off a trend in an online book-collecting community (he's most emphatically not a book collector haha).
Nice choice from Santa! It can be very satisfying to receive a gift that fills a gap like that. I'm somewhat the opposite of you - I'm very fond of a golden-age/classic mystery but I've not started collecting any FS Christies as I could foresee them getting a bit out of hand among the dwindling shelf space, so I've just had to draw the (somewhat arbitrary) line somewhere!
