Magnum - photographers and band

https://www.librarything.com/author/photographersmagnum includes the name Magnum. However, Magnum needs to be split - it can refer to the photographic agency or to one of several possible artistes: https://www.discogs.com/search/?q=magnum&type=artist.

I don't think I'm up to splitting the authors and combining the Magnum photographic entries into a single author and keeping the musical entries separate so if someone could help out here, I'd be grateful.

FWIW, I've just added the titles Kingdom of Madness, Chase the Dragon and The Eleventh Hour!.

You can easily separate magnum from the author page. Don't use author division, but rather the 'Includes' section. Separating Magnum out leaves all the photographer author names together.

Then Magnum can be split, and any photography works aliased.

Since I have no idea who created which works, and haven't heard of any of them, I'm not the right person to tackle this.

Unfortunately, Magnum includes both the photographers and the band... Easy enough to remove and split, but then the photographers section needs merging back into the photographer...

Aliasing is easy. It's a separate page under author division. The hard part is sorting the works.

OK, I've split out the 2 different bands called Magnum, which leaves a bunch of unknowns, at least some of which look like they're related to the photographic agency: https://www.librarything.com/author/magnum

Now I've split out a few that are clearly the photographers, and aliased that split to the photography page.

Thanks MarthaJeanne, that's looking good now!

And I've tracked down the album I just added that wasn't showing in Magnum (1)...

Teamwork.

So the process is:

1. Separate the name from the single author page using 'Includes'
2. Split the separated author and assign works as appropriate
3. Once all that can be assigned have been, alias the appropriate division back into the original author page (note that you can't alias 'unknowns' - they must be assigned to a division first)

Does that about sum things up?

In cases where there has been a wrong combination, that is what we have to do.

Of course, in the process you may come across other splits that need to be aliased. And once that aliasing has been done, there may be work combining to do, too.

Unfortunately, there are always people who decide that Jane Smith and Jane F. Smith ought to be combined. Magnum and Magnum Photographers is similar.
