Huh. We haven’t talked about this yet in this group. Perhaps most libraries we encounter tend not to keep older books in their collections.

But I found one! I’m auditing a class at Berea College. It costs me $50 and the parking permit is another $25. I could walk onto campus after a vigorous walk from home, but I might have to work up to that.
Anyway, I’ve spent an appreciable amount of time in the Hutchins Library the last few days. Most students haven’t returned yet, so it’s very quiet and I’ve been able to get lots of interaction with some staff. Monday, Lola helped me find the textbooks I need and gave me a very thorough tour. Oh my!! In both the fiction and nonfiction sections, there are SO MANY tattered volumes!! I wanted to slow and look at titles, but we didn’t have time. The shelves go on forever.
I may enroll every semester.

Oh, that sounds like fun! I live in a little sub-burg, so membership to the next-door city library is $50 a year and I haven't availed myself of that option yet. Unfortunately, I think their collection is aggressively weeded. Our church library has to do the same due to limited space, but the culls go on a "free to a good home" table and I've had some fortunate finds there.
