I am trying to remember the title/author of a book where j saw the author interviewed by Oprah. I do not believe it was a book club selection. I think the author was a blond woman and southern. I keep thinking Elizabeth Berg but can’t find the book. All
I know about it is there is a scene that Oprah read out loud and it may have been the opening page, where the woman who is physically abused by her wife is possibly in her laundry room and she senses she is about to be abused by her husband. There is a line that Oprah was very taken with describing how the protagonist senses she is about to be hit/attacked and tiptoes around her husband. The line starts, “you know before you know,” or something similar and it describes the chill up the spine or sensation of fear and I THINK how the wife knows if she does not leave she will be killed eventually. That is all I know of the book! Thanks.

>1 allisonmiller: You might be conflating a few books. The "know before you know" is, as you thought, from Elizabeth Berg. Open House.

But I'm not sure it's about abuse.

>4 vorkosigan: ok thanks! Maybe I am misremembering the scene. Now that you say that, it could be that she knows she is going to leave
