I love books and I love books about books!

Can anyone recommend any collectors or special
Editions of Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s books? Ideally to a FS standard?

Any leads are much appreciated!

I don't have these but a friend has some of them, and the Subterranean Press editions of some of his books might be what you're looking for. They are different from FS, but have sewn bindings, good paper, and some of his titles were still signed. A new one is about to be released, that one unsigned naturally.

I have the SP books and they’re pretty nice. Not as nice as Folio but not much below and I’m happy to have them. I bought them about 2 years ago and they were pretty expensive (think I paid $1600 CAD for them). I’ll try to take some pictures of them tonight.

Many thanks for the tip on SP Editions! Alas they are all sold out and prices on eBay are a slightly excessive £500!

All SP editions are limited and they are very rarely reprinted. So if one is late to the party, the second-hand prices almost always are an issue. It's definitely kept me from getting into series where I missed the time when they were available directly from the publisher. I'm still trying to get two Gaimans, but those are also in the 400-500$ range.

Some are definitely very hard to find. I’m missing Penric’s Demon from the Bujold series. And I just ordered Zafron’s Marina even though I think the standard hardback is pretty expensive for what it is.

I am a huge fan of Zafón’s books and bought them in German, as they got published, I remember then that he wasn’t all too famous in the English speaking countries then. But I also missed the nice editions that came later.

He sadly passed not too long ago and I was sure they would republish the “Cemetery of forgotten books” series again, but alas they haven’t yet. In November a new novella was published though.

>7 woodstock8786: I’ve bought his first three books starting with Shadow in the Wind all those years ago, a signed limited edition - slightly better than hardback edition. I wasn’t too pleased with his third book in the series and lost interest. Don’t know what he’s published since but adore Shadow in the wind. I distinctly remember when it was published and the translation into English is so beautiful

Fully agree. I was disappointed by the third book too. Nevertheless, i managed to purchase the series from a variety of sources in hard back and have also bought book 4 "Labyrinth of Sprits" and a novella of short stories set in the Cemetery of Forgotten Books universe. My hope is that at least somewhere in the pages of his last two books is some of the greatness that I found on Shadow of the Wind.

I own an illustrated edition of the first book (The Shadow of the Wind).

You can try finding the limited edition one that was signed and has a slipcase. Mine was the mass produced version that came with neither. I wanted a version of the book that is slightly better than a regular hardcover so it doesn't really bother me.

>10 HamburgerHelper: Many thanks! I have just purchased the illustrated edition from ebay. Non-slipcase which i could not find. It's shame the published didn't make all 4 books in a similar style.
